That's amusing and also one of those moments when you realise tarot is not coincidental, but magical, whatever magic means in our world. I've had cards I didn't understand in context come up, and only understood them later, in hindsight. But I've also had the perfect predictive cards come up telling me exactly what will come to pass, and that's what feels the most magical for me.

The way I draw clarifiers is to keep the original card face up on the table, shuffle and draw from the rest of the deck, and read both the cards together. It doesn't always make things clearer though :mcheh:

That's harder, to my mind. That's an ongoing, you have to live with it forever thing, instead of one single moment that's the exception instead of the rule.

After my experiences, it certainly would be a lot smarter to keep the confusing card out of the shuffle when asking for clarification! XD

The predictive ones can be so scary sometimes. I know a lot of hype gets made about any cards suggesting death, but, I think all but once when I've drawn the reversed ace of spades I lost somebody. There is a certain grim reservation when the Tower or 10 of Wands comes up too.

I drew the death card in the context of the health of a querent's relative once, too, and didn't tell the querent; instead I told them I wouldn't read for health-related questions. Thankfully this was a remote reading so they didn't see that I'd drawn a card, nor which one.

The card that frightens me the most is the Three of Swords. When I drew it as a prediction for how the end of my year would go in 2021, I went through one of the most painful experiences of my life, and the depression that ensued plagued me for years. I'm still not quite okay.

Ah, yes, the lovely 3 of Swords. "Heartache" is just not an accurate enough associated definition to nail the depths of hell this card can bring. x_x

#13 Death as a card usually means "endings, transformations" for me, in which I'm grateful. I have enough hassle out of #16 Tower and 10 of Swords. I once read a suggestion that 10 of Swords could simply mean you're just being overdramatic and making a situation out to be worse than it actually is. After all, isn't TEN swords a little overkill? Oh, no. That one has consistently meant "clusterbomb" in my life.

Numerologically, when my "personal year" coincided with #5 Hierophant, those were some of the most abusive years I've been through, and those that coincided with #13 Death were freakin' ROUGH. My first #13 year finally pushed me officially to PTSD. My second one turned my entire world upside down as I lost virtually everything.

I'm sorry you've endured such difficult, traumatic experiences :mccry: I used to expect that tarot telling me what was coming would make the impact less or easier to endure but that hasn't been the case at all. I hope we both heal.

Likewise, the Death card signals that something will end and change into something else for me. There have been times when it has signalled a welcome end to stagnancy for me.

How do you numerologically calculate which card your personal year corresponds to? It sounds like a fascinating exercise, and one I'd like to try.

Thankfully simple! Add up your birthday two digits at a time. In example:

December 6, 1973 = 12 + 06 + 19 + 73 = 110 = 1 + 1 + 0 = #2 High Priestess

And your Birth Card Pair is splitting the first number into doubles, so, 110 = 11 + 0 = #11 Justice. The first card is your "personality card", how you present to the world and what you're meant to learn in this life time. The second and smaller card is your "soul card", which represents your core self and your purpose across multiple lifetimes.

My pair is #18 Moon & #9 Hermit. Caught in an endless cycle of overthinking and tryna figure stuff out. XD

Oooh, interesting! And how do you pick your card of the year? Since you said your personal year coincided with the Hierophant, I suppose it varies from year to year?

Yeah, and that goes back to basic numerology and the numerological personal year. Add your birth month and birth day to the present year to find your personal year and associated tarot card. So, like, dude or dudette from December 6, 1973, their personal years and associated tarot cards would be:

2025: 12 + 06 + 2025 = 2043 = 2 + 0 + 4 + 3 = 9 / Hermit
2024: 12 + 06 + 2024 = 2042 = 2 + 0 + 4 + 2 = 8 / Strength
2023: 12 + 06 + 2023 = 2041 = 2 + 0 + 4 + 1 = 7 / Chariot
2022: 12 + 06 + 2022 = 2040 = 2 + 0 + 4 + 0 = 6 / Lovers
2021: 12 + 06 + 2021 = 2039 = 2 + 0 + 3 + 9 = 14 / Temperance
2020: 12 + 06 + 2020 = 2038 = 2 + 0 + 3 + 8 = 13 / Death
2019: 12 + 06 + 2019 = 2037 = 2 + 0 + 3 + 7 = 12 / Hanged Man
2018: 12 + 06 + 2018 = 2036 = 2 + 0 + 3 + 6 = 11 / Justice
2017: 12 + 06 + 2017 = 2035 = 2 + 0 + 3 + 5 = 10 / Fortune
2016: 12 + 06 + 2016 = 2034 = 2 + 0 + 3 + 4 = 9 / Hermit

In numerology, you keep reducing down, so 14, 13, 12, 11, and 10 would be 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1, respectively. For tarot year purposes, you can just reduce until you get to a major arcana card number. The cycle repeats and then offsets by one every ten years. In my roster, the last time I had a #4 Hierophant was 2013, and he won't be back in my cycle until 2085 (if I live that long). Maybe by then things will be different and he won't be such a disastrous presence for me as he was in 1995, 2004, and good golly at the havoc he caused in 2013. My husband and I curiously enough started talking at the beginning of my #6 Lovers year.

Can the Tarot cards tell me if I'm going to travel somewhere this year?

Technically, yes. There are a handful of cards with direct definitions like "short-distance travel", "long-distance travel", and "overseas travel". And then sometimes you'll get a more cryptic answer like "surveying your kingdom" that could mean going on a critical school or business trip that helps shape your future.
