My dad has had his fair share of surgery.
Injuries when he was younger. Meniscus when he fell from a roof.
He got his prostate removed a few years ago.
This time it was a bit more complicated. He had appendicitis back in April, but because it took him so long to go to the hospital (covid is making healthcare more complicated) his appendix became inflamed and got stuck to other organs, so they could not remove it right away.
Since then he's been on and off from the hospital, and now they finally found it was possible to remove the appendix.
I was a bit scared because there was a chance they could find they still needed to remove part of the intestine, etc. But luckily everything was A-ok!

There has been quite a bunch of serious surgeries in my family, so I guess you get kinda used to the "simple" ones.
But surgery is still surgery and always frightens.

Hiya hiya! I feel like I'm active in small spurts of time and then I get busy...I was here for the summer event, but mostly lurking since I didn't have much time to post, but I hope to be active again, so I'm coming in here, if you don't mind!

I see you all were talking about surgeries, and I agree that it always frightens, though I'm lucky that neither I nor any of my close families have had to go through that, so sending you all virtual hugs! I'm glad everything turned out ok in the end, Amura. ^^

They forced you to stay?

I've been on waiting rooms, and you are literally doing nothing there.
Usually one person waits - in case the doctors give some information - and another one accompanies him/her - because waiting alone may be hard on one's nerves.
And those people can rotate. One arrives, the other one takes a break.
But there is no point in the whole family being on a waiting room - unless you do want to. Which sometimes happens.

Under stress people make stupid choices.
I guess they were so worried themselves that they did not think it thru, because it hardly makes any sense.

My brother had the day off the day my had surgery. But he did not go to the hospital a all, because my mom was there and when she needed someone I was ther for her. There was no point in all being there.
Therefore he decided to do some work despite having the day off (which is kinda amusing) while being always reachable by phone in case we had news for him.

Back in da house. ;-D See it's in a tree now.

To answer the old question, my son turned 8. He asked a few weeks before if he was allowed to invite 3 friends and I couldn't resist. It was quite hot, so we put out a tarp outside, threw a lot of dishwashing soap on it and a little water. Also made a cake (I usually only bake birthday cakes, for husband and kids) and it was nice. :)

Think the kids enjoyed it, cake turned out nice, but there's not really a way to destroy a basic dough and whipped cream, soo...

No hospital news here, luckily. :)

Yeah, I decided I would buy a virtual house on a tree, since I can't have one in real life.
Pure envy, you know.


I like smallish birthday parties.
When I was a kid we used to invite 3, 4 or 5 friends and that was it. Everything was quite easy to arrange.
Now people like to invite the whole class, and you have 20+ or 30+ kids so you end up hiring some professional services because you just can't handle that many kids.
In all honesty I'm glad covid forced us to go back to smaller parties.


I don't bake much either.
And my son is not a fan of cakes. He did not want one for his last two birthdays. Nutella sandwiches it was. Nothing can be easier


As a kid I loved the classic biscuits + custard + chocolate cake.
It's very popular here because it's easy enough for kids to make, and requires no baking.
