I'm against wasting, obviously.
I think the problem is that people aren't all taught the value of money and nobody teaches us money management, so they probably don't even know how much they waste, and could even post in this thread saying that people wasting things is bad.

I can also agree with Poshi : it's their money, they should do what they want with it.
But I also think that in a society, the more fortunate people have the responsability to help others and the world, instead of using their money in a selfish way.

I have my moments where I spurge like crazy... like 200$ shoes... or makeup.

But a lot of times I save money... especially on food. Like I use coupons and buy things on sale :mcsweat:

You buy a $50,000 car and just let it sit - it's a waste.
You buy a mansion for $5,000,000 and just let it sit - it's a waste.
You spend $500 on an item you can get for $20 - it's a waste.
You throw out perfectly good food because it's a day old - it's a waste.

There are people who are sick that can't get their medication and are suffering and dying.
There are people struggling to pay bills and have food
And the government seems intent on making it even harder for them.

But someone can spend $500 on a fidget spinner that will end up in a drawer in a few days.
It's okay to buy a $150,000 car and let it sit and rot.

I've gone to get my medication and seen people turned away because they couldn't pay for the medicine they needed.

It just irks me that some people struggle to pay bills and have food and even get medical attention, but others can just spend money like it's nothing.
Like people who say they can wipe their ass with a $100 because it's nothing to them.

Does my point get across easier?

If you earn money and buy something you want that you will use, okay.
If you save up to buy something you want that you will use, okay.
If you're given an expensive gift that you will use and are grateful, okay.

What gets me is spoiled people that can't appreciate anything and care only for themselves.
Such as a woman that spent $600 on a cake and her kid whined and complained that it was the wrong color.
$600 can pay a person's bills for a month and buy more groceries or buy medicine.
Or kids that get expensive iPhones for Christmas and complain for some silly reason.
Some kids are lucky to get electricity and heat for Christmas.

I have just had it with people in this country xD

Yeah, initially I think I missed what you were saying completely,
but I definitely understand now!

Most people I know are poor, or grew up struggling financially,
so they are inclined to make the most of their expenses.
It's always good to surround yourself with people like that.

However.
As an example, I know someone who got divorced recently and received a lot of money.
A wise thing to do, in my opinion, would have been to invest most of that into savings,
or to prepare for her kids' futures as far as school, cars, etc.
Things that will better their lives later on.
Those expenses are important, coming from the girl who borrowed 65k for university because I had no more money.
She didn't even spend it on groceries or something practical or useful.
She spent it on frivolous things like a swimming pool for the backyard.
(After recently buying a trampoline for said backyard).
I never had things like that growing up so maybe I don't get it,
but I would have much rather had money put to my school or to feed me
(considering they were low on groceries at the time),
than something big and clunky that I can't even take with me when I leave.

Like some of my favorite expensive "toys" are able to go with me when I want them.
Game consoles, puzzles, movies, whatever.
I don't know.
Now I'm ranting for no reason.
Point is, I don't get why people don't spend wisely.

I'm used to not having a lot of money.
I'm usually broke after I pay my bills at the beginning of the month.
So I try to spend as little as possible, thus I am a cheapass.
I wear clothes and shoes until they're full of holes and unwearable.
My current shoes - the soles are falling off, but I can still use them, so I still wear them.
I buy the cheapest clothes I can and they will last a good while.
I try to buy food that will be filling and last because I can't just buy food whenever.

I didn't mean if you work hard or save up and you buy something you always wanted.
If you feel that you can use it and cherish it - then that's good.
But people that just spend on things they don't really need and don't even care about - it irks me.
I don't get why you'd spend tons of money on stuff you don't plan to use.
If you're not going to drive a car that much, why buy it?
If you're not going to live in a big fancy house much, why buy it?

If I got money and bought a car, I'd use it always.
If I got money and bought a nice house, I'd live in it always.

And I think it's cool that a parent can buy their kids expensive stuff, but if they don't appreciate it or cherish it, then you shouldn't spend all that money on them.
Like the cake and the little girl - it was cool that her mom wanted her to have an awesome birthday, but she's little and she doesn't understand how much stuff is, so she was upset with the cake.
Or parents that do everything for their kids and don't teach them to be grateful.
If I was rich, I'd buy all kinds of stuff for my little sister.
But if she was ungrateful, I wouldn't buy her anything else until she knew what it meant.

I'm sorry if I came across ignorant or hateful.
I just don't understand how people can spend so easily on things they won't take care of or use or anything xD

I always tell people "If that shirt is $100, it had better be self-cleaning."
Or "A $500 fidget spinner? It had better cook and clean too."

I don't know the truthfulness of it, but someone said that rich people were asked what poor people would do if they got a lot of money.
Apparently we'd all buy drugs and alcohol.
I don't do drugs and I can't drink, so no.
A lot of people I know would save and invest.

      So you're right, Fran.
Money doesn't last unless you put some away or put it into things that will keep money coming in.
Like when people win the lottery and quit their job.
When the money is gone, you will need a job.

I try to give what I can to charity.
I even want to go to work at a soup kitchen or Meals on Wheels.
I know how it is to not be able to get food or leave home to get food.
I also try to donate some of my clothes, but you have to watch who you donate to.
There seems to be people stealing from some of those clothes donation things.
Which is shitty in itself <__<

      That is pretty bad. D:
I understand if you're desperately in need of clothes, like ..
I can't condemn someone as easily for stealing when they need that item to survive.
But if you're stealing from people who need it, when you don't?
      That's messed up.

This made me think of something that kind of stuck with me,
though I don't remember the exact statistics.
Something like, you're never really happy if you have too little or too much money.
We may have actually talked about it in one of the Chat Forums, tbh.
Like, if you don't have enough to live comfortably, living paycheck to paycheck,
you won't be happy. And if you have too much, you get stressed by it.
I really appreciate the rich people that donate millions and billions of dollars
to charities because .. like .. why would you do anything else?
Why would you hoard items you don't need when you can buy yourself
enough to make you comfortable, pay off your debts and all, and then
give what you don't need to someone else?

I always said if I won the lottery the first things I would do would be:
Pay off my student loans. Pay for my sister's schooling/loans.
Pay off my parents' debts. Get my parents, who are divorced,
houses that they can live comfortably in.
Like if I won a million dollars, I'd spend the 65k for my student loans
and I'd still have well over 900k left.
I could do so much with that for the people I care about.
And then I would get the smaller expensive things that I know would make me happy or would make them happy.

Probably take us all on a vacation, too. :U

I suppose I assumed that you were speaking about people who earned their money through hard work, technical skill, investment, education, luck etc and not spoilt kids who inherited it from their parents and don't know the value of hard work. It is a shame that these people exist and it's a shame that there are people out there who can't afford food, shelter and just basic needs. Unfortunately, it's not always simply the case of 'take money from the idiots/make the idiots give them their money to us, and it'll become all better.' I mean it might, but there are also things like teaching the poorer communities the appropriate skills such that they can provide for themselves, having the infrastructure, laws and legislation to support them etc I could go on but I'm not an expert on how to make true communism work out lol Maybe when the word is completely automated.

As a consumerist society, to some regard we are all wasteful. I don't need all the possessions I own and I own things on the lower digits. I've donated a lot of clothing etc to charities simply because I had too much or didn't want to wear old things.

Actually, I think it's even if you won the lottery, over time as you become accustomed to your conditions, you will no longer feel satisfied with your newly obtained wealth. So story is, no one can ever truly be happy. We will always want more. Wow, that turned dark really quick.

No one ever seems truly satisfied, it sucks xD
And that whole money can't buy happiness thing.

I was an only child, so I was a bit spoiled.
But the older I got, the more I noticed how things work.
I won't say I'm right to be so cheap.
It's from having money taken away from me and not getting much and feeling like I'm not worth a lot xD

There are many rich people that do donate.
I've heard of rich people going undercover as the homeless and helping people.
There are rich people like musicians and actors that will pay for funerals for complete strangers.
It's not that all rich people are selfish and bad.
A lot of people worked their asses off to get to where they are now, and they've earned it.
Some started at rock bottom and worked their way to the top, so they've been where others are now.

I've wasted time, wasted money, wasted food, wasted all kinds of things.
I try harder now, but I will always waste something in some way xD

I saw this supposed news story about this rich woman that would steal clothes from those donated clothes bins.
She got confronted by a news station and didn't seem like she even felt bad.
It's like....she HAS to have a ton of clothes, why does she take clothes from people that NEED them xD

          Some people like the rain ;3;

It's not bad to be frugal unless you're being inconsiderate to your family and friends by doing so although I don't really know a good example of this. Maybe, your friend takes you out but they always pay and you never consider to do the same for them.

Oh, I've heard of something similar like an old woman who plays beggar in the streets is actually really wealthy 8U
