Ahh, a herniated disc (or two)? That wouldn't be a disease then (unless it was a result of one). I don't know about in the spine, but what I do know of a "hernia" in general (as my BF had one and my cat had two.

) is that it's when the wall of a tissue ruptures / rips and the tissue beside it starts stretching and growing into it.

Both the BF and the cat were able to get surgery to close their hernias up. But spinal ones I do not know if they can be closed? My cat got hers from her spay, poor thing. The incision didn't heal right on the inside, so her internal abdomen still had a hole in it where tissue was pushing through. We only figured it out when we found a lump on her belly that would come and go.
