Weight is such a difficult issue because it's often a very negative closed-loop cycle eh D:
You gain weight, you feel bad, you want to feel better, and the easiest way is often food (carbs = serotonin)...
For me, I gained quite a bit in the years that I finished uni and started working because those were the most stressful times, and a combination of stress + lack of sleep + irregular eating habits created that terrible food cycle D:
The catalyst that got me to make changes was weighing myself after a long time of not doing so and being slapped in the face by the number OTL. And fortunately, my job had stabilized and I had a good environment to support making changes.
At the end of the day I think it's half situational (timing, environment) and half grit (pushing through despite the pain of exercising and the cravings). So it's again, a very difficult issue
