Yes, it's a huge jump. And it's meant to be a disaster.
But some people need to make mistakes by themselves, they just won't listen to anybody's advice.
I do my best giving them - and so did my colleagues - and now we can only hope they (and their families) make a good choice.

Yes, here there are standarized exams for college entrance.
It's something competitive, because students are ranked acoring to their scores and each college and degree only accepts the best possible ones.
So for degrees in high demand (for example, Medicine) you need a very high score to enter, while students with low scores don't have any choice but the few degrees with low demand.

Well, you guys did all you could. Now it's really up to them D:
What's the worst that could happen in this disaster situation though? Would they have to repeat school?

Oh wow that sounds a lot like China's system. One exam decides your future...
If the students don't do well, do they have the chance to retake these exams?

I feel really fortunate that here, post-secondary is application-based, so while it is still intensely competitive, at least everything doesn't hinge on a single test. :mcheh:

Yes, they can retake the tests, there is another chance in a month.
And if they still don't do well enough, they can try again next year.
But still it's devastating for them.

Oooh having another chance in just a month is nice. But repeating tests has got to take a toll D: fingers crossed for your students!

The semester is almost over now right? Do you have any fun plans for the summer? :)

Yes, it's good that they have a secnond chance, but emotionally it's far from perfect.
Well, I'm still hoping they don't have to go, the scores will be published tomorrow.

Yes, the period is almost over, but they (they = politicians) decided to change the way the academic year is arranged and we have an odd situation in our hands.
Here on high schools we work on trimesters, and we have three of them. Today we finished the third one.
But classes won't be over until June 22nd.
Apparently in this period we are supposed to help our students who failed to improve (hopefully enough to pass) and also to extend the contents for those who already passed... at the same time, in the same classroom ¬¬

That.... sounds like a really awkward period DDD:
I can imagine that the students (struggling or not) aren't interested in further learning at all once these trimester and exams are over... :mcargh:

Yes, of course, and imho they are absolutely right about it.
But I can't tell them that, or I won't be able to do my task - silly as it is, this is their last chance to pass and I want them to focus!

Perfect beach weather does not help either...

Oh, yeah, we have very nice beaches here. Soft sand and all.
*looks up images*

This is the town I live in:
https://www.diariodepontevedra.es/asset ... 6P22F1.JPG

There is another small beach in the town too, and others at walking distance.
The best ones are not so close though, we would need to drive there. But within 10 minutes by car we have several nice beaches.

My son's favourite is this:

Oh wow beautiful white sand beaches! :mclove:

I miss beaches with soft sand QuQ

I also live near the coast, but our beaches are kind bleh and rocky. The view is great but you can't really play in it. :mcheh:
