Does your brother like sauerkraut? Because kimchi is sort of like pickles meet sauerkraut and then have an adventure together in Spice Town.
/did not expect that mental image today when logging in to KofK

Uh.

You know what? I might not be sane enough for internet forums right now, because I am totally mentally composing a theme song for this adventure saga.

Uh.

Excuse me. I have to go find out where the clarinet is and try out this melody. And then maybe get some sleep to recover the energy to go back to pretending to be normal.

That is actually a really accurate description! Kimchi is totally that XD

(I would be highly interested in hearing this theme song if you ever do compose it please)

((But please take care of yourself and get the rest you need!!))

Also @Rubie: there are different kinds of kimchi too. I'm not sure about if the stores sell it where you are, but if possible a good place to start is fresh kimchi, basically kimchi that haven't been fermented for long. So it's more refreshing, juicy/crunchy, and bright!

Today was a weird day for food @_@
I got put on a round of antibiotics yesterday for an ear infection, and the pills have the side effect of causing stomach nausea so my appetite is bust............... @_@

For breakfast I had a bit of porridge. Lunch was half a rice roll, dinner was a bit of rice with potatoe and tomatoe stir fry as well as a tofu and meat sauce dish.

Oh man I wish I liked kimchi but there's something about cold spicy that throws me off each time.

Oh dear I hope you feel better soon!

Yesterday I had a falafel and hummus bagel with sweet chilli sauce for lunch, and for dinner I had pizza!! I ordered it from Dominos and it was delicious but I ate too much like a fool so it's back to being sensible lol

Ooh. I wonder if I would still like it. I haven't had sauerkraut in years because I wasn't a fan the last time I tried it lmao. But my tastes have changed since then. But I can definitely give my brother the rest because that just sounds like a combination of what he loves lol.

I will have to look to see what they have. I don't go to that grocery store often as it's out of the way and it's kind of a pricier grocery store too.

Also down for a theme song as well lol.

I have noticed the more crap I eat the hungrier I am because it's not as nutritious or filling. I keep waking up starving in the mornings. Can't wait to get back to healthy(er) eating. but who knows how long that will be.

I ate pretty healthy today but didn't move much; mostly just stayed indoors and worked around the house.

Today for lunch I had eggs and beans, some strawberries and an apple for a snack and for dinner I made veggie pasta, all pretty tasty.

Although I did forget to calorie count (again) I'm so bad at it :mcsweat:

@Pastel: OMG where do you live that you can get good Dominos pizza? :mcargh: Every time I've had Dominos here it's been rather terrible >__<

@Rubie: Do you have any Korean restaurants where you are? If so maybe eating there could be a good way to try kimchi in very very small amounts. They usually provide small side dishes of kimchi and various other pickled foods with your meal~
Ahh sorry to hear about your unhealthy food situation >_< Fingers crossed that you can get healthier meals soon!

Today is still a not-eating-much day for me /D;;
For breakfast I had some porridge and apple slices. Right now (as a mid-day snack) I'm working on tea and a donut. I think dinner will be a balanced meal of rice and stir fried veggies though!

Oh man I don't. Unless they aren't on google maps. But we have way more Vietnamese restaurants than I thought. I've always wanted to try one that's close, but no one will go with me and I don't know why I'm chicken to go by myself.
Yeah me too. Hopefully next week? I need to go grocery shopping regardless to stock up on my fresh vegs.

So far today was not that good.

Breakfast was granola bar. Lunch was...ground turkey tacos and a slice of pizza. And I snacked on a donut. Hopefully supper will be better.

It is intimidating to go to a restaurant alone :mcheh:
Though I find that with the smaller/less chain brand places, going alone can actually be relaxing~
(On that note, has anyone here watched Solitary Gourmet? It's this Japanese show about a businessman who goes to various restaurants to eat alone. It's super calming and fun to watch!)

Anyways what about ordering delivery or take out? That's less pressure than eating out :)

Tips I found for going to a restaurant alone, when I was living by myself in a foreign country:

1) Start a "food" notebook. Record what you eat, what you heard about what you ate, and what your impression of it is.
2) Set a goal (something like "try a new food once a week")
3) Don't try and eat AT the restaurant by yourself, go for takeout instead; that way you can eat without feeling self-conscious
4) If you share enough of the language to hold a conversation, involve the waiter/cashier/chef with your choices and goals:
"Hi; I'm working on a project where I try a new food once a week, and this week is Kimchi/Insert Whatever Here. Since I haven't done this before, can I get you to recommend a meal that incorporates kimchi? I'm kind of nervous about this, so I could really use your help!"

Typically people LOVE sharing food, and sharing advice, and sharing expertise, and being able to play the hero. You usually get far more enthusiastic cooperation than you can handle -I once had the cook give me a takeout container full of tiny samplers instead of a single dish. It was crazy. But people do that.... you appeal to every part that they most want to do, and they'll be so happy they get to finally shine in their chosen field. This is their moment! This is what they love! They get to introduce someone new to exactly what their whole training and job is about!
So yeah.
Suddenly you aren't alone; you've got former strangers on your side, cheering you on.

By making it a project, a regular thing, it's less "who is this strange person who never tried X before?" and more of a "Wow look at this person being proactive and accomplishing things".

It also turns the restaurant experience from "something social you do with others -why is that odd person alone?" into "Wait that's right restaurants are about food and eating and trying new things, and that is exactly what this person is highlighting and doing!"

And by getting takeout, you don't have to worry about eyes on you when you're eating, and you don't have to worry about disappointing the waiter/chef if you turn out not to like the food!

Even if you don't go the takeout route, if you have a notebook full of food notes with you at the table and you write while you eat, everyone assumes you are a food critic or travelogue author or something like that, which gives them a simple easy explanation for why you are alone, and they don't look at you so strangely, and they don't (usually) try to talk to you, and often you get VERY good service because they want good reviews, ha ha ha ha

I mean, "good" domino's is always hard to find - it was more that I hadn't had it in so long it was good XD

Also that's excellent advice Akili - I haven't done a restaurant by myself, but this is a great way to try and get into it.

I would use this on the Vietnamese place nearby but sadly I once found beef in my veggie pho so it kinda put me off them as a customer >_< A lot of places in asia cater specially for single diners, whereas we don't get that here sadly.
