Your wardrobe image is actually a code which shows a list of images (each item) laying over the previous one.
The database stores which items you are wearing, and when you save in the wardrobe it stores THAT last image.

You enter the wardrobe again, the code shows all items so you can make changes.
And when you save, it overwrites THE SAME image.

My avatar's code is this, where 18248 is my ID.

Code: Select all

If I posted this image in the forum, it would change every time I changed my avatar in the wardrobe.

So only one avatar per person is actually stored.
Plus the ones in the DAC, those are stored separately.

...huh! That's sneaky and clever, to sort of stack the images that way so it reduces the number used!

Exactly.
Otherwise the amount of space required for so many images would be monstrous.

When you save an avatar in the wardrobe, it only saves the item list.
That's why when you try to load an old avatar and you no longer have the items, it loads without those items.

This is so interesting! And yeah, I imagined that it would be nigh impossible in terms of expenses for saving all old avatars, but it's really nice to understand how it works!

Yes, it's very cool.
That's why I loved learning a bit of coding, you can figure out many things once you know how they work.

I've always considered learning a bit of coding, for the heck of it, but then realized I'm lazy af so no, lol. Especially as there are other things that I'd want to learn first, if I found the motivation and the time.

Anyone who can make sense of code is godly to me, lmao

It's just another language, one which has very strict grammar rules and not much vocabulary

But, yeah, life is too short and there are so many things worth learning and doing!
(But we do end up spending the day on the computer LOL)

That's true! But if I were to learn a language, I'd first want to learn Japanese (if ever), so coding would have to wait, lmao.

And that's just another reason not to learn it, LOL. My job is spent solely on the computer already, I shouldn't add more computer time (though I already do :mcargh:).

I learned Japanese, studied it for three years.
But that was 20 years ago, I never was really fluent... and I haven't practiced it at all ever since.
So I'm afraid it's all lost now.

Ah, that's what happens when you don't use a language, unfortunately. Spanish and Italian are really similar to French, but I still haven't managed to become anywhere near fluent or even passable in them, lmao. And I studied them not that long ago, kek.
