Yeah, it would seem so.
My Native American ancestors still continued to live strong despite what happened to them.
My great grandpa stayed in a concentration camp for a while in Germany and continued to live strong despite what happened to him.
I exist because my family overcame a lot of stuff, including detrimental health issues.
When I feel weak or like giving up, I tend to think of them.

Let's hope we - the newer generations - are as tought as they used to be.

Hm.
Today's my father birthday. There are no plans for anything special, but still it's cool.

Never heard of the food stamps scam. O.x

I did hear about apps in the Netherlands with "too good to go" boxes, stuff that's nearing their expiration date and that people can pick them up for free or a very reduced price.

Nothing like that here though, the only "scam" I know of is that someone is probably receiving money (I think) to get rid of old bread and that he's selling it to us as feed for the cattle. But that's not really a scam, that's business I guess?

New generations tough, dunno. I really think it stinks people talk less and less with each other. I just witnessed my colleague calling with her 16 year old daughter, she forgot money and her bank app wasn't working so she couldn't buy a ticket for the bus. I was mainly thinking back what I would have done. Calling my parent's wasn't an option, 'cause I didn't have a phone back then, so maybe asking someone for a few dollars? I dunno. Maybe ask someone for cash and transfer it to their bank account later? Or would people really not trust each other anymore? I don't take the bus, but I think I'd help someone, just give it. But yeah, I'm not there. And I doubt I'd notice if someone's calling all the time being super stressed...

There is "too good to go" app here, but I heard quite bad things about it. That either things are already not good at all, or that you end up paying full price.
It only works in cities, so I don't really know.

Maybe he just gets the bread for free?
And yeah, I would say it's a business, and probably not a very profitable one (otherwise the ones giving them old bread would care to sell it themselves).

Yeah, back in the day you would freak out and would ask for help because there was nothing else you could do.
And someone would help you out, because there are always nice people everywhere.

Now people have other resources, but I'd like to think that if they needed help they would find someone who would help them indeed.

Amura: Happy birthday to him \8u/

I would hope so. I don't know most of my family.
I have several cousins but I don't keep in touch with them.
My cousin I was closest to has gotten married, but I don't know if she wants kids.
My second closest cousin got 30 years in prison, but he got out after a few years and he seems to be doing good.
My other cousins I haven't seen in years so I don't know about them xD

Jolien: Yeah, I hadn't either ._.
I know people sell their food stamps but didn't know people got scammed out of them.
Well, see there's buying food cheaper if it's near their expiration date and there's...food way past the expiration date.
The person had said the food being sold was clearly expired.
They could have been lying for attention, but people did say there's food stamps scams so xD

I sometimes think back to my childhood and recall no internet and no one really had cell phones and it gives me a mild anxiety attack .__.
There are nice people that will help you if you need money.
I had this man pay for our snacks because I couldn't get my card to work.

I'm kinda nostalgic about those times without internet or cell phones.
Yeah, all this stuff is handy, but I feel I was more free back then.
(Maybe it's just the age.)

Yeah, I think you'd find a few jerks, but in general, there must still be nice people out there, even when their occupied with phones... >.<

Aaand no. You'd be surprised how many businesses just appear because big companies don't WANT to have the hassle to deal with a so-called by-product. In general it's more profitable for them to get rid of it soon, instead of trying to sell something sometimes, sometimes not. Storing it, handling it several times.

Stores just want it gone, it has to be gone, so they throw it together and it goes. Doesn't care where. Better example, after brewing beer, there's the grain that's "left over", worthless for the beer brewers, but it's great feed for cattle. Price used to be super low, about 10 years ago, 'cause... By-product, not their main focus. Then little businessguys started "fighting" over the contract to get the right to "pick it up and sell it", price has quadrupled since and they always ask a market price now, they compare it to other feedstuffs and their costs and compare it to the energy/proteins or fats, whatever is in the product.

Business brings good stuff, but also, well, can mess up a lot. XD There's demand for the product, so prices go up. But Heineken itself, never sold it to the end-user directly. They want to get rid of it the easy way and just write out tenders, the one who takes it all in time, can take it. :>

You clearly have a greater understanding of those business than I do, it's very interesting.

I guess that whenever an opportunity arises, someone will think of how to make profit out of it.
I suppose it's good, a new company dedicated to by-products means more jobs and all, but it's all probably more complicated.

This world is getting complicated every day!

I don't like phones in general. I have a cell phone and I only play games on it every so often.
But I do see how useful cell phones can be.
It's nice to be able to call anyone anywhere at any time 8u

There will always be people trying to profit.

I remember hearing there's a planet that exists that could be livable because it's close to how the earth is.
I talked about it with my dad and he said "If they're not as civilized as us, we will take advantage of them and fuck them over and take their stuff 8U"
I was like "......I believe we will Bu"
Knowing the history of our ancestors, that's exactly what would happen xD

There are nice people. I try to be a nice person. I've had so many people be mean to me, insult me, kick me while I'm down, etc.
Instead of being like "Well, people were mean to me so I'm going to be mean to everyone!" I try to be as nice as I can be.
It worries me that people may think I have ulterior motives and such but I just try to put out good xD
I was also raised to be polite to people and try to help them when I can.

It's nice to be able to call aywhere at any time.
But it's not so nice that people has assumed you must be avaliable for their phone call anywhere at any time, and even worse - for their text!
And there is a growing obsesion with being "on" all the time, not missing any news, being the first one to see/share something.

I wish to believe that was part of the past, but actually we are still doing it - abusing of poor countries and forcing their people to do our dirty work for a misserable pay, while imposing our "modern" culture to them.
I have more hope in the individuals than in the civilization as it is.
