light; I technically had targeted therapy, where drugs targeted genetic markers on my tumors. My tumors are benign, but they do cause problems.

College sucked. I traveled from Austin to Houston and back every three weeks for a year then went deaf. Still graduated early, but my GPA cratered.

I’m stressed and exhausted. Dealing with a major health question and having to find most of the answers/information on my own, plus wavering support from family. So not great.

But my friends are really helping. :D

What's the health problem? Are you alright?

A test showed pudding-like food goes into my lungs when I eat. Nothing else was tested, and, Imo, really bad conclusions were drawn. But that can’t be changed.

I was supposed to be on no food by mouth and feeding tube in May. The goal of the feeding tube is to prevent stuff from going into my lungs [aspiration]...but I can’t find solid evidence it actually does that? There are two main ways for aspiration to still happen: from oral secretions and from gastric [stomach] emptying. But I’m not a doctor, obviously. This is what I spent the past week doing.

The concern with aspiration is that it can be fatal.

If I was otherwise healthy, the decision would be easy. But I have a severe chronic illness, and a feeding tube would take away a significant portion of my independence, which I value greatly. I feel like it may prolong my death, and that terrifies me.

I want to make a logical decision, but I also don’t want to live in fear. I don’t think that’s truly living.

Man that is scary. I hope things can be taken care of and you don't have to live in fear.

I wish I could help ease your mind, but in this case I've got nothing. I feel useless.

I’m tired all the time now, and I worry.

I’m fairly useless as a person, to put it bluntly, which really makes me wonder about the value of putting a feeding tube in.

A doctor with ALS wrote, “As miraculous as my life is, I want out of my body,” and I am so close to identifying with that. Which isn’t to say I don’t value life.
