I've been wanting to talk about this for a while and I will get my chance, hopefully, Friday when I see the doctor.
For years, there's been certain sounds that piss me off.
And it's not like mildly annoying - I feel pure rage.
I don't usually self diagnose myself, but I found this thing online and it really sounds like what I have.
It seems like a pretty specific problem.
It's not like "My head hurts so it must be a tumor!"
Misophonia is a disorder in which certain sounds trigger emotional or physiological responses that some might perceive as unreasonable give the circumstance. Those who have misophonia might describe it as when a sound “drives you crazy.” Their reactions can range from anger and annoyance to panic and the need to flee.
These are sounds that "trigger" me:
Snapping your fingers
Clapping your hands
Random obnoxious noises I can't explain
Ugly laughter which I also can't explain
When people snap their fingers or clap their hands, I want to take a hammer and crush their fingers and hands so they can't snap and clap anymore.
When people make random obnoxious noises or have an ugly laugh, I want to sew their mouths shut.
There is no build up - just instant anger and aggression.
I've tried to not react and I tried to tell people to stop, but they just call me inconsiderate and rude and just act shitty to me.
Like how dare I have legitimately something wrong with me and try to stop you from fucking me up.
When I was younger, I didn't know what to do, so I'd just punch myself in the head.
That's stupid, but that's all I could do to deal with it.
I don't like this anger and aggression and I definitely would never hurt anyone unless they were trying to hurt me and my loved ones.
But I'm sick of being "triggered" by every day sounds.
Soooo I'm going to talk to my doctor and my therapist about what to do.
I just wanted to know if anyone else has this problem?

"I'll miss the winter
A world of fragile things
Look for me in the white forest
Hiding in a hollow tree (come find me)
I know you hear me,
I can taste it in your tears."

When people sneeze it sometimes really annoys me. And it makes no sense because I have allergies, and I sneeze way more than anyone I know!
And my mother makes this noise with her mouth. Like, if she's checking to see if anything is in her teeth, she makes this "smack" noise that drives me nuts!
Also when my dog licks her foot.

I'm pretty sure that I have this issue as well. I remember my German final in high school. A girl next to me kept snapping her gum. I was so enraged. I was imagining very disturbing violences against her.
Lots of noises will cause this for me. Usually mouth sounds. I don't like it at all.

I knew someone with Misophonia. He would become enraged when he heard metal clanging together. Like change rattling around in someones pocket. He got enraged at me for it, and I was scared of him after that.
He seemed to assume I was doing it on purpose just to piss him off, I guess. I just didnt know about misophonia and innocently was counting my change or something.
I dont have misophonia that Im aware of but me and my friends joke about how Country Music enrages me. Lol.
I really do not like country music, but it doesnt quite enrage me.. Lol.. Its just that I reacted to it strongly one time. I am usually not the type to be pushy about what goes on in the group, but I really did not want to hear country.
When you say people become enraged by such sounds you arent exaggerating.. He bit my head off about it.

That's a perfect word to describe it, too. My Latin is more non-existent than rusty, but doesn't that mean sound hatred? Which makes me wonder if our word "misery" comes from the same "miso" root, somehow....
Sorry, little distracted.
I don't have any sounds that are enraging like that, and you make me exceedingly grateful for it! There are a few that make me cringe, but none that flip on an 'ire' switch. (Styrofoam rubbing against itself is just -no, please don't! but it's not an angry reaction, it's a 'get it away from me', almost fearful reaction)
