Aw, it's so good of you to take care of their lawn for them!

Guys, speaking of things plants, I'm super happy right now. A while back I got a service berry bush from someone who was moving and said I could have it before they listed their place, and I transplanted it (and I don't own a car, so be entertained at the thought of me taking this thing a mile through the town on a wheelbarrow, the leaves way up over my head), but I thought it had died.
Today I saw new leaf buds on it!
It's not dead!
It lived!

I am so happy right now :qh:

Yes! I'll see what all happens this year and then prune off the actually dead stuff this winter. I figure it won't give me any actual berries this year and maybe next, but after that? Watch out! :qwhee:

I don't know anything about that kind of bush. Are the berries edible?

Yes, if you can beat the birds to them. That's hard to do, though.

Huh. Sounds awesome then. I tried to grow strawberries once and they actually grew, but ants ate them almost immediately. Sometimes it's really hard to save your food from the rest of nature!

ha ha, this is so true! Things designed to get eaten, are eaten awfully quickly!
Did the ants eat the whole plant or just the berries of your strawberry?

Pretty sure they ate the whole plant. I think I had it as part of a school project. My mom seems to remember the details of it better than me. I just know I never got to eat any.

We had a naturally spliced raspberry-blackberry plant for many years

My Japanese maple, the year I got it, had a full third of its buds nommed by the damn deer
It's over two years here now and it's slowly growing still
Kinda leery about trimming the dead parts off tho, cuz it's only a few feet tall

Aw, that's too bad. At least in our climate here strawberries are more perennials than annuals and you could have tried again the next year.

Japanese maples always astonish me with how spiky their leaves look from up close, compared to how gracefully droopy they seem from afar.
