That. Uh. Sounds like a book on those epic-scale where it's almost about the setting more than the people.

Are you going to choose a shorter one for your second book or another epic-scale one like Wideacre?



(I've been going through more of my long list of to-read, both actual books piling up and lists of recommended ones to grab from the library. Some of them are fun and some are more tedious and some are great and some are disappointing)

I am now reading The Treasure of Alpheus Winterborn (a short YA book) and Mimus (a long YA book). Once it stops snowing, then I will get Wideacre #2 out from the library.

I finished Mimus last night. The ending wasn't entirely what I was hoping for, but I did enjoy it overall.

@LittleJulez: thanks! a few pages is progress too :) there's nothing wrong with having a slow year.

@Sanssouci: that's what matters, I guess. what were you hoping for?


I don't have anything to share yet. I've decided to try annotating, so I'm going back to the beginning in Spinning Silver armed with sticky notes to mark the things I noticed

and now I have a reading list for March and April. it's the list from before with a few changes

The book is about a bad king. He imprisons another king and makes the prince his jester's apprentice. The bad king treats them like animals and has them beaten.

Well, you just knew that the king and prince were going to be rescued eventually. So I was really hoping they would get the jester out too. But the jester decided to stay with the bad king... I didn't find that part of the ending very satisfying, and I also didn't really get it. Like, he didn't even really explain why. It was just kind of like, "Yeah, he starves me, and beats me, and it's cold, but meh, I'll just stay here." And the good guys were like, "Ok, we'll make him give you a blanket and some extra gruel though." The end. I really wanted a better ending than that for him.

I cannot WAIT until this week is over (& I will have finished my last paper). Then I can finally read some fiction again <3
