This has been bothering me for a while.
I HATE being called "ma'am".
Not like "Yes, ma'am" or "Excuse me, ma'am" but "Ma'am! MA'AM! MA'AM, I'M TRYING TO HELP YOU! MA'AM!"
It just rubs me the wrong way.
And I guess I'd like "Miss" more but rarely do I see anyone use that.

My name is Ashley, so a lot of people call me Ash.
That's never bothered me because...it just doesn't.
This boy in my class said "Hey, Ash!" and my friend turned and said "DON'T CALL HER THAT!! SHE DOESN'T LIKE BEING CALLED THAT!!"
And I just stood there like "o_O I never said that EVER..."

I like being given nicknames from people. I've gotten a few of them on here - "Moisquito" and "Moigarita" being the ones I remember most.
My bestie calls me something no one else does and I don't like her using my real name much o_O
I often call people by their usernames because that's usually how I get to know them and eventhough we're friends - it feels improper to use their real names.

Is there something you hate being called?
Do you have a favorite nickname?

A world of fragile things
Look for me in the white forest
Hiding in a hollow tree (come find me)
I know you hear me,
I can taste it in your tears."

I have a lot of nicknames (and a number of names, too, because of family naming habits, although not all of them end up on the birth certificate) so I can often tell who is talking to me (and sometimes in what situation) just by what name they use. But it means I'm not particularly attached to any given one of them, since any single name never feels like my whole name, like all of me, it just feels like an aspect, kind of? Oh dear, that's not very sensible. Hm. Not sure how to put it, sorry!

I look at the name "Moi" and think of that musical, Camelot, and the "C'est Moi!" song. So all of your posts are accompanied by the ghost of a song in the background. Kind of like your own theme music.

I used to hate nicknames, especially because it would just be like a parody version of my non-English name :u But I came to like them now haha

I don't have a favorite nickname... except on kofk, I prefer going by Nan. But I LOVE giving nicknames (more like shortened versions of their name) to people. And often I forget some might not like that ><
Like for Moi's real name, I would definitely call you Ash lol
Even short names like Eva, I would say Ev.

I used to go by my first name on a lot of sites/social media (though I've always been "Feb" here!) or a first name followed by another noun. Then I changed my users on most of them to become a bit more anonymous - my first name is pretty individual so when I broke friendships with some toxic people I wanted a way to stay anonymous to them if we ever crossed paths online again. As a result, I became a little protective of my real name, so only a few friends I've made online know what it is and I prefer they only use it in non-public forums.

As a result, I am always totally fine with nicknames, except when they are a bit rude or silly.

For example, I go by tea or teacup on Twitch, because that's my username. But someone called me 'The Letter T' and now type, "Hey T, can you..." etc. I don't know why but that one rubs me the wrong way!
I like my name! I picked it! :mcargh:

I actually really don't like being called by my name. I would rather be called nothing at all.

I do like, after years of being called it online, being called Mooney or Fish.

I get where you're coming from with ma'am. When you're young, it sounds like the person thinks you're old. When you're old, you'd rather not be reminded, XD. But I think it implies respect, and sometimes when someone calls you ma'am, it acknowledges your authority over them in some way. Sort of like: I'd like to speak with the manager/Yes Ma'am! Instead of: I'd like to speak with the manager/Are you sure I can't help you, Miss? This is the "ma'am power".

My nickname in high school was dragon (from gaming). My real name is Laura, so it's too hard to shorten. I really don't like Laurie. It seemed like half my high school was named Laura/Lora/Laurie/Lauren, Laurel, so I think I just don't want to feel like I'm being mistaken for someone else.
I'm totally okay with shortening Brighnasa to Brie though, and stuff like that.

I think it depends on who calls me "ma'am" whether or not it bothers me... LoL

As for my name, some of my friends call me Nik, which I don't mind at all and actually kind of like it. I can tell they are comfortable with me when they call me that. But most people just call me Nikki cuz... it's a short and simple name, not much need to shorten it any further LoL. I love when my nephews call me Auntie Nikki. :mcheh:

One of my school teachers called me Knicker Bocker, which I did not mind and actually loved because he was one of my favorite teachers. :mclaugh: :qh:

I hate it when I get letters in the mail (snail mail) and they are addressed:

Miss -Husbands name and last name-

I know that's the proper formal whatever thing to do. But its like I never get mail with my name on it. I use to love and get excited about getting mail form family with my name on it because it made me important and loved. Now it just feels like I'm owned by my husband or they are sending it to my gender-flipped husband. XD;
IDK maybe I'm just ridiculous. I just miss seeing my name on mail for me.

Then in public, I confuse people. I get called "Sir" a lot or "Sir... Ma'am?" It just cracks me up though. I don't really mind if I'm called a boy or girl.

Something that bothered me a lot was when I worked with a transgender woman, who was clearly a "ma'am" - and sometimes people would call her "sir" when they heard her voice was deeper. Like, excuse me? It's obvious she is a woman. Why would you call her sir because her voice is deep? Ding dongs.

I feel kind of weird being called ma'am, like the person is saying I am old or something lol. But I especially hate when people say "ma'am" with a snotty tone!
