@jacobgrey: that's cool! what are you teaching?
I teach English, to Chinese students. Done for the year now as I'm staying at my parents', and they don't have a suitable place where I could sit to do the lessons. It has to be quiet and with a plain background, and they just have stuff all over their walls plus a noisy neighbour dog XD

Special bonus though, my dad left a book for me to read on the dresser as he thought I would like it haha.

Yeah, it's pretty cool. Nice to be at home, and then after the lesson is done I just take off my headset and boom, I'm at home. No travelling or having weird people in my home lol. Also if someone is annoying I don't care because I probably won't teach them again :D

That sounds really nice! Do you do this through a program or is it independent tutoring, or what?

Through a company called Likeshuo. I basically open up my timeslots where I want, and they match up students with the slots. When there are national holidays or things like national exams, it gets really hard to fill the slots because everyone in China does everything at the exact same time, apparently :'D

So you can usually predict when the busy and when the empty slots will be? That sounds better for personal scheduling, though....

Yes and no. Some things I'm definitely still learning about. And sometimes there will just be a dead day or a really busy day out of nowhere. Like when I had a whole week of no lessons.... except for one day in the middle when I had four XD I tend to just book in slots at times when I definitely know I will be available, and then if no one books in, I have back-up stuff on my to-do list that I can get on with.

Huh. Mysterious! Do you get a lot of repeat students that you start to recognize or is it a lot of new faces all the time?

Kind of a bit of both. I can't actually see them, just hear them, though they can see me. But I take detailed class notes every time. Then when I get a repeat student I like to surprise them by remembering things about their work and family :D Some come back time and time again, others I only see once.
