Mmm, something to bear in mind when I talk about books:
I like to write the positive reviews (the what-I-liked-parts) rather than the negative reviews (the what-I-didn't-like-part) so talking about a book is not actually the same as recommending it, exactly. Every once in a while I'll write a ranting review of all the things wrong with one of my favorite books, and you can't be fooled; it might be negative but I'd still recommend the book. And conversely, when I've put down a book I didn't like, sometimes it helps me to write about the things I liked in it, or that it did well. Which would be a positive review of a book I wouldn't recommend.

So....

What you didn't hear me mention about the Nina Kiriki Hoffman books is that often the plots are mere bagatelles, an adjunct to character development.
If you like tight pacing or strong plot elements then these books will not be of much interest to you.

On the other hand, if you're much into world building or characters, these are great books.

It just depends upon what you're looking for.

They typically do not have great dramatic happenings. They are typically smaller-impact, vignettes from a life and how that life shapes a person, or how other people shape someone, and how they try to push back and shape the folk around them, in turn.

I do enjoy these books; but not all the time. Knowing what you are in for makes a big difference!

Yay for passing exams!!

Thanks all for the offers, but I've been dealing with this pain for over 2 weeks already, been to the doctor twice for it, and now going a third time. I've gotten good at tuning it out, and it's not 24/7 pain either.

Speaking of books, I did illustrate a children's book written by my mother...we published it on Lulu. It was fun XD

Akili, I'm a sucker for world building, so that does sound right up my alley. I like books that make me think about the implications of certain characteristics of the world on society and the daily lives of people. That tends to stick with me and I think back to that world and compare other worlds or real life situations to it.
I don't have anything against a good plot in a boring world either, but usually the world is the more memorable part for me. I'll remember details of it long after I've forgotten the details of the plot.

Serra, that sounds awesome, doing a project like that with your mother! What was the book about?

"The Story of the Three Ragots"
Basically the Three Little Pigs with ragots (french for wild boar) instead. It was a cute story and was very fun to draw houses flying into pieces XD

We printed up a bunch for ourselves to give to family members, and set it up for public sale too.

I love it, I already loved the waterbomb fights and I really dig the colour choices of the items this time around!

I'm amazed at how many new items we have! I was expecting some second part of the event to be a very small thing, but this is lovely!
