I don't know why but that trope has always amused me immensely! People doing huge amounts of work, ostensibly in the name of efficiency/reduced labor. It's just super funny.

I mean more along the lines of someone spending twelve hours designing a macro that will help them complete a computer task "faster".... and it saves them about twenty minutes.
Or someone who needs to shelve something up higher than they can reach, so instead of taking five minutes to fetch a ladder, they spend forty minutes building a ramp/stepping stool out of cans which are right there.
They're still the ones doing the work.... they just end up making more work for themselves in the name of doing less work.
That's the trope that amuses me.
They work really hard at avoiding work.... and it doesn't much work.

Not what I meant originally. I mean they have to check in on their kids so the can't ring up customers, they just took a 15 minute smoke break but not they have to take a thirty minute bathroom break. I've actually seen people play candy crush at work.

I just wish my bosses did a better job sorting out who they hire. The lady I work with comes from another store and I can't believe she didn't get fired the way she acts. She takes off her uniform all the bloody time. You're supposed to be in uniform the whole shift.

Maybe they have some sort of strange policy trying to avoid firing people because of not wanting to be liable for increased unemployment insurance rates?

Right now we just don't have enough people to let anyone go unless it's for theft. They were talking about getting rid of her before the theft happened.
