My school didn't even have sex ed.
They put the girls in one "bible group" and the boys in the other.
Our teacher barely hinted at sex and then never said anything.
They taught us nothing.
They just demanded we not touch each other. Even when dancing.
xD

We also didn't have a nurse's office or a counselor.

If you were sick or hurting, you got an aspirin or sent home.
If you needed to talk to someone, you got sent home or a referral to a psychologist.

a picture of the spiderweb darning would be fun!

Moi, your stories... they make me want to go back in time and move your whole family next to a couple of my more... blunt, pragmatic, practical but ultimately and supremely kind, aunts. Light's stories make me wish that, too, but in a different way. They had their own views about education and they weren't afraid to follow through. I don't know how many kids they had 'a little conversation' with, but it was a LOT, and well more than just us in the family.

The lack of proper sex ed in America disgusts me.

We should all buy up a piece of land and make a nice community. Sounds fun.
Where we can all be nice to each other and have all the freedom and learn cool things and hang out.

Yeah I dont rememver them really talking about it at all. I got like a little lecture about periods in 5th grade? But after that there was really nothing. xc They should be doing more because I know kids know about sex at a really early age and they need to learn at a good age so they can be safe.

Oh my goodness that sounds fun xD I would love to do that.

Most of the cheap land belongs to some highly conservative very-religious types. It's time we changed that! Or at least added more diversity....

Ah, I want to say I'd be in but honestly the paperwork from setting up something like that would be well beyond me.
It'd be fun to join if it were already set up though.

I got told a little bit, it was way better than some people's sex ed. But still not awesome.

I would love to be a sex ed teacher. Kids need to know about their bodies, and others' bodies, and protection. Mo knowledge, mo power.

The crazy religious types. Gross.

What if someone bought all the places and then rented them out to friends or something? Idk. it would take a lot of paperwork now that I think about it.
We need some people who know about those sorts of laws and stuff.

Akili, you would be super important to the set up! You'd help us figure out what to plant and stuff. So we can be mostly self sufficient.

I mean, I don't think Home Ec was very helpful. I don't own a sewing machine, and I guess I cook but not any of the recipes we learnt in the class. I feel like I learnt the basics of cooking at home more from my mom. I guess if I grew up without someone who can teach me, I would have found it more useful. No budgeting or taxes or pyramid scheme awareness, though.

It was Stitch and Bitch but no one hardly ever embroidered or sewed anything so it became Knit and Bitch but I guess because it didn't rhyme and people did more than knit they changed it to Craft Night. Though I think Craft and Bitch would have been just fine on the level of Knit and Bitch.

But clubs would be student-run. You never know!

Hmm, that's possible. There are special socks for people with diabetes so I guess I can see it not being good for diabetics.

Our school had sex ed but I didn't understand a word of it so who knows. Maybe it was great, maybe it was terrible.

Our counselors were basically in charge of making our schedules. That was it.

My school could have done better. It was a private school so they got good money. They could have have afforded things we needed like that xD

I didn't even get told what a period was.
I got mine when I was ten years old.
I guess my mom was planning on telling me, but she didn't know I'd get it that early.
I was playing video games with my dad and I went to the bathroom and there was blood.
I was like "MOOOOM UB!!"

I remember finding a book in the children's section about masturbation.
It was for older kids and it taught them things about their bodies and stuff.
I remember reading it and thinking "Ah...that's so normal and makes sense 8u"
So anytime someone started the whole "Masturbation is wrong!" thing, I'd think they were stupid because it was a natural thing to do.

Ah, but why would you NEED sex-ed if you're a good Christian and not following Eve's footsteps? /sarcasm

Oh man. Did they at least teach you guys AFTER you've had your first?

I got taught about period but my first still took me by surprise. I had a stomachache the day before (which I now suspect was my first period cramp) and when I woke up there was a dark black stain on my underwear. I assumed that I had an accidental diarrhea during the night before and secretively threw out my underwear. I don't know why it didn't clue me in that I couldn't smell anything like that. But then I went to school and there was that stain again after first period and it was less dark so I knew that I was having my period for my first time. I can't remember how I dealt with it. Maybe I asked my teacher for some pads? I don't know.

That's great! Wow, I'm surprised such a book was available in your area, given other things you told us.

Ahhh, that sock makes me happy. It says, "See? You don't have to be perfect to work and be warm and wonderful" and that is encouraging me to try more darning, because most times I just turn old socks into armwarmers by making the holes bigger, instead of trying to fix the holes.
(I used to try and patch them, but that never worked very well for socks)

Do you start at the edges and work around the edges spiraling in, or do you sort of start on one side and go across, or is it all over as needed until you're pretty sure it's not going to fall apart under your feet?
