Discussions on fountain pens, because awesome. Alright, discussions about fountain pens are not really needed, but I do enjoy them. I currently have four: Two I purchased myself and two being gifts. I have dubbed my group of four "Cult of Boris".

My first fountain pen came in a set of JML Classic pen set collection. I enjoyed writing in a journal with it; unfortunately, the instructions to clean it did not help when it stopped writing, and I was sad. I did not contemplate using the computer to inquire on how to clean pens at the time, and only this year did I attempt to get onto JML's old site (I was unsuccessful as the site no longer exists), and I am unsure where to find cartridges for it. I do have pen flush, so I can clean it. I believe the nib is fine, but I do not have any sources. I do not know what the inks in the cartridges were other than black, blue and red.

My second pen, which I purchased myself, is Lamy Safari (La-me Suh-far-ee). It is charcoal in color and its nib is extra fine. I need to acquire steel sheets to help clean it as cleaning it the way I was instructed has not helped with the writing after I dropped it on the carpet. I bought Diamine Onyx black with it and was delighted with my transaction. I like being able to see the ink in my cartridge through the little windows as I write... which is not often because I am unable to get the nib to write after the drop.

My third pen I obtained is Nemosine Singularity. I do not know how to pronounce it, but I heard it is pronounced like the greek titan. I have also heard it is pronounce Neh-mo-sign and Neh-mo-zeen. It is the pen I write with the most, and it is blueberry. I bought confidence blue ink with it and am proud of my purchases. It's nib is extra fine.

The fourth member of Cult of Boris is my Jinhao 159. Its nib is medium, and it is orange and thick, which contrasts from my other pens, which are thin. I was planning to name it Charizard because it is bulky and orange, but I decided to name it Diji because a friend bought it for me as a birthday gift. The site he purchased it from was having a closeout sale as well. I am still stoked he got it for me.

Yes, fountain pens do need a bit of maintenance, and not every paper is fountain pen friendly, but with fountain pens, you can change ink whenever, and witch convertors/piston filers, you have a lot more ink to choose from! There are also different nib sizes to choose from, depending on the pen you want. I do recommend doing some research before getting a pen and ink because not all pens are easy to wash out and require chemicals that damage your pen.

I had to google what fountain pen are (not because I don't know them, but did not know the English word). I don't think I have used one ever since primary school, where it was mandatory. :mcheh:
I think they are a bit too high maintenance for me.

Wow. I've never HAD to use them, but I own a couple because I think they're cool. I haven't used them in ages, though, because they are high maintenance. I really like the one with a pipette, though, because I could buy a thing of ink and suck up the ink instead of having to buy the capsule of ink.

I used to want the schools in the U.S. to make it mandatory to use fountain pens, but then my younger brother reminded me there are ill behaved, destructive children by being ill behaved and destructive. Sure, there are pens out there that are cheap, but if someone keeps purchasing them, they would have lost a lot of money.

I do want to go to the U.K. and have children so they would have to use fountain pens, but that will never be a thing because it is pointless and not very nice.

You should use them, but if they are too maintenance for you, then that is fine. You do not have to buy capsules. You can get converters instead, but then again, you might like cartridges more, and that is perfectly fine.

But I have a pipette so it's okay. But yeah, It's too much maintenance for me. I might want to try drawing with them when I have more time, though.

If you want to use a fountain pen but one something that you can just use until it breaks and not feel bad about tossing it, they do make disposable fountain pens. Those are the ones I use in class because if I lose one it's no big deal.

I only have two fountain pens at the moment...but one is a Mont Blanc. My father got that one as a law school graduation present. It is extremely expensive so I sort of feel terrified using it sometimes. >__< It writes beautifully, though, nice and smooth, so I use it for slow note-taking on stuff that I plan on using for a long time.

I also have two Pilot fountain pens...can't remember which models offhand. They're good everyday pens. I...have a lot of ink. Lots. Too many. If anyone is interested in getting into fountain pens/other fancy stationary/writing stuff, a good site to buy stuff from is JetPens. Everything I've bought from them has come safely and quickly. Some of their stuff is more spendy, but you know you're not going to get bootleg crap.

...I'm also thinking about learning to write longhand using dip pens...I have a book on Spencerian script and one of these days I'll stop being lazy and take it out and give it a whirl.

Oh hoh, I didn't know that. But it's not so much that I'm worried about wrecking them; it's that I need to clean them before putting ink in, put ink in, blotting my work after, and then washing my hands because I've got ink everywhere.

:qh: Love my Fountain Pens!
Can't recall how many I currently have, as some are in storage since my recent move. Would guess 8 to 10, but I have more than one of the same, just different colors.

I don't use them as often as I use to, but they are still loved!

Use to do All my writings with them, even quick notes, checks and grocery lists etc.
When I was young, I also use to write in my Journal with them.

But now I mainly use them during Christmas, when addressing cards, envelopes & Addressing Gift cards.
Suppose it is just a "lack of time," issue, that, and the fact that I don't write as much anymore.
Now I make notes & lists on my cell.

*An Idea @Boris_Boris
Try a Wedding Invitations Printing Shop, they may have a catalog of cartridges you can order.

I used to love fountain pens. I had several with all different colors of ink.
That was my pride and joy. :}
