It's 1:43 am my time so humor me and don't mind anything that doesn't make sense.
Question:
If Charybdis sucks in water thrice a day then couldn't a ship sail over her during a the time she is not sucking in water? And does it include night time or is that separate? After all there are 24 hrs in a day. Unless it takes her 8hrs just to suck in water and spit it out then I can understand why no ship could pass her.

I just realized that "take out" means food, dating, and murder. And if you were a female praying mantis you'd have all three.

Okay so I'm not an expert on Greek mythology at all, actually, I know almost nothing about it, but this kind of sounds like the Greek explanation for the rising and falling of the tide. x3
Okay so I looked up a bit more on her and I read here that because she spits it out again, a maelstrom is created. So that makes sense, doesn't it? She sucks up the water (an enormous amount, so that may take a while), she spits it out (again the enormous amount), the maelstrom is created, the maelstrom takes some time to slow down, and by that time she starts sucking it up again. I don't understand why the hell the girl ain't got nothing better to do, but I can imagine none of these stages are really safe for ships to pass. I mean, the water is constantly in motion, and a heavy motion at that...
Anyway, I know nothing about it, so you can probably ignore that answer. 8D

Unless it's because I'm sleep deprived, it makes sense. So that's not a bad answer.

I wish, it's now 5:33PM and my daughter is up too. So no sleep for me yet. I may try for a nap though.
