Huh. So out of curiosity, where does that my little pony show fall on your scale? Do they count as entirely non-human and okay or do they have too many human traits and seem strange again?

I don't have much opinion on that since I haven't even watched the show, only played with the toy ponies as a kid (although I feel like I'm getting kind of allergic toward it with how often I see the art on deviantart, lol)... But can I assume they're something like the Care bears? I used to watch that as a kid and that one was kind of teetering on the line. But to have some rare exception example, I used to like the show Gummy Bears, but even that was because I liked the (human) boy character. Hated the princess, lol. But when they at least look fully one thing (human or animal) is I suppose bit more bearable than if, let's say, looking part human, part horse. You know, like a centaur. But things like Garfield are fine.

Huh. Okay.

I guess I grew up too much with fantasy genre style of books and games to find it an issue; I tend to think of humans and animals on a continuum anyhow. It's the mechanical-human hybridization that gets me, instead. That alternatively fascinates me and grosses me out. >.<

I used to love fantasy books (they just didn't have any hybrids and such in them). I do still love many fairytales. The only genre I've never had any negative feelings toward at any point is detective/mystery stories. Now in my adult life that's the one that has captured me even stronger than anything else before.

It's interesting how tastes change! I used to really dislike histories and biographies and travelogue/diaries but now I find them fascinating.
(I've always liked mysteries though)

I think what's so good about mysteries is that it's so wide and open for so many possibilities. Not to mention just how easy it is to combine with other genres. Even more than most other genres. But I'm biased, as a fan.

Yes! Some of my favorite books ever have been a combination of mystery/sci-fi or mystery/fantasy

Lol, there's one genre I never however got into. Romance. Well not actually romance, since that I was really into at some point (though mostly through rpg), but you know the whole housewife filthy unrealistic romance and sex type. Not sure how else to describe them... It was during time I was at least a teenager and didn't know what else (new) to read. So I tried two. Oh man... First one I read the whole thing actually (hoping for the best ya know), but the second sealed the deal for me: Nope. Never again.

Ha ha ha, fair enough. I had the horrible growing experience of romances being the primary source of sex ed (Ugh! WHY?!!!!) but I actually still read them; mostly for comedic value, though.
One friend of mine in particular and I like to get together over drinks and dinner and each bring the most overblown romance we can find, and we swap them and try to read them out loud to each other and whoever breaks down laughing first loses...
it's a lot of fun!

......Well, I guess we all need hobbies. Lol. XD I read some "badfics" sometimes and laugh at them, because, well, badfic (I think that's what they're actually called, but can't be sure). Although I admit I feel bit guilty sometimes for laughing at someone else's work... Not that I do it in public or anything.
