Here's another story about the impact on Central American refugees, which I think is really being overlooked in the national conversation about the ban.

Wow that is pretty harsh to do to a child. They need medical care and now can't get it and by the time they say ya sure come get it, they might not be around. This ban is getting worse and worse. Never really thought about the kids effected by it that need medical care.

Right now the ban has been stayed by the courts and we're waiting to hear a ruling from the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Their ruling could come at any time, and people are saying by the end of the week at most.

Whatever their ruling is, it's sure to be appealed. At that point it goes to the Supreme Court.

Which is still an 8-member court, and if this comes down to a 4-4 tie may god have mercy on our souls.

However, according to my migration studies professor the case history of the current Supreme Court justices suggests that a majority will find the ban unconstitutional. I'm not sure if that's accurate, but that's what my professor said today.

At least with what your professor said we have some hope. I just hope the ruling is good and the Supreme Court finds it unconstitutional as well. It's ridiculous with what's going on. He's making a huge mockery of everything and people will have less respect for the States than they already do in some areas. Rather sad that we have to deal with a child in office and how screwed up our elections are. Wished we could change them since majority of the people don't even want the baby in office.

One thing that's been making me feel a lot better is that a lot of Muslim people in America (and around the world) have been feeling welcomed and loved by all the people protesting and welcoming them home at the airports. The outpouring of resistance to this order and the outpouring of support for the Muslim community has been seen and heard. I've heard people saying they've never felt so welcome in the United States before, even people who were born here and have lived here their entire lives. It makes me proud. :qh:

I'm also proud of all the Jewish-Muslim support I've seen. When I went to the airport last weekend, I was there with a ton of different synagogues and there were also a lot of mosque communities that showed up. It's a big deal for us to be working together. In the rest of the world, Jewish-Muslim relationships are really fraught, but here in the US we have a chance to mend that wound. This is important to me, because it's one of the only parts of the Jewish covenant with God that I actually really believe in--that we're supposed to use our suffering as a tool to fix the world and make sure other people don't suffer as we have.

That is really good to hear. Glad people are feeling that now. Sad they didn't before but at least people are showing they ae no different from anyone else. Haha the last daily show episode I watched from last week, the indian man on it was talking about how people were praying in the airport and people are cheering them on. Rather funny how he put it but it was really nice to see all that support.

I'm glad the two religions are working together. If you don't mind me asking is there a reason why Muslins and Jews don't get along. I've heard of it before but no much else to reasons why really.

It's not really about Jews and Muslims, but the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is a hugely divisive issue around the world and there is a tendency to conflate Jews generally with Israelis, so it creates...I dunno...like a personal barrier to communication for people?

I don't really understand the whole history of it, but it's good to see people coming together.

Yes it is. Especially during times like this it's great to see.

Daily Show talked about how Bannon is the one running the show. No idea what's going on now with him being chief of the National Security though. All I know is that we have a bit of hope with the judge and courts doing the right thing with the ban and then we take it from there. I guess.

Wow! I dunno if you heard about it, but the court hearing was livestreamed last night. Hundreds of thousands of people watched! I'm not sure about the exact numbers, but I know there were around 80,000 watching the Washington Post stream, another 100,000 watching the CNN livestream, then CNN and other networks also carried the livestream live on air. The Ninth Circuit hosted a livestream itself, but there weren't available viewing numbers. And a journalist in D.C. reported that when she got on the subway everyone in the subway was listening to the hearing together.

So I dunno how many people watched this court hearing, but it was something of a national event. That's beautiful. More court hearings should be streamed like this, what an amazing civics lesson!

Wow that is amazing. I just heard about it. Glad they did that even with such a huge topic as this. They really should do more hearings like that. Rather nice. This way the people know what is exactly going on and no one can lie about it at all.
