I'm watching a video about animal attacks.
Animals are said to not have souls or feelings.
I don't know about souls, but animals do have feelings.
It's quite clear.
However, I've heard people say that animals will attack if provoked, or if they're hungry.
Well, if animals have feelings, can animals be capable of being evil?

I don't know much about it, but my dad told me about a dog my uncle had when they were kids.
He said that dog was just plain evil.
Not in a joking way.
He killed things just because he could.
My dad is very good with animals, so I'm inclined to believe him.
But I wanted to see what others think.

Hiding in a hollow tree (come find me)
I know you hear me,
I can taste it in your tears."

I don't think animals are evil just because they attack when they're hungry or provoked -

they need to survive and protect themselves, us humans kill other organisms for food too anyway -

but I never knew some dogs would kill just because they could.
That's like a dog psycopath! Scary!

Im sure they can be plain evil, or manipulative. My mom once got a dog and introduced it to the other dogs we had ( 3 at that time ) in the start they got along well,, never a problem when we were around, then one day after coming home from a visit, where the house for oncehad been empty. My younger sister went to the bathroom asap we got home. Only to run screaming out again; the familys smallest dog laid in there in a small pool of blood, dead.
my brother, dad and I had our suspicions who of the dogs was behind it, but the new dog would be 'normal'. So my mom would take it in defense. Another day we went home when my brother took the dog into out of nowhere to attack our oldest dog. He managed to seperate them ( they were same size )

In the end my dad got the new dog put down, when it started showing clear signs of aggression towards him and us kids.

Later on he told me he had never seen a dog be so directly manipulative and destructive in such a way before.

so yes I think evil can be in every animal or human.. it is just a question if the evilness gets allowed to grow up and become a dangerous problem or not.

raining: Yeah, I'd never payed any attention to this subject until that video.
But yes, killing to eat and survive is natural to me.

Teirin: Wow D:
Actually, that's similar to what my dad told me.
He lived on a farm with his siblings and his parents.
He had a dog and his brother had a dog.
He said his brother's dog would kill chickens and such, and just leave them there.
He wasn't hungry or anything, he just killed them.
Then he told me the brother's dog killed his (dad) dog.
My dad has never said anything bad about animals like that, but he told me he thought that dog was just plain evil xD

Animals absolutely have personality and will and conciousness. The question is how much? How much does it extend?

Eeeek! Thank you for sharing these violent dog stories. I've never had mammal pets and I usually don't get to see animals, so I never knew they could be that smart and manupilative and aggressive 0_o

How much? Hmm...I guess scientifically consciousness and intelligence is supposed to depend on how much the brain is developed (?) but many scientists say plants "feel" pain and communicate with other organisms too so maybe it doesn't matter (?) No idea...

Whoa, who said animals don't have souls or feelings? That's just ridiculous. I mean, technically humans are animals. We just classify ourselves differently because we're so "smart".

But really, I believe the possibility of any animal being evil is the same as a persons. They think, they have personalities, and it's possible that they could be aggressive or cunning if they wanted to be.

I had an dog at my fathers house as a child that was that way. She would act certain ways at times, and then do a 180. She disliked most people to begin with, and you'd know if she didn't like you. At one point she got so bad, she was put on a chain and only my father could get near her.

Well, just like humans, animals can be born evil due to how their mind is effected when it was born. However, they are few and very far inbetween so they are rare cases, as it is with humans.

It all begins on how they are brought up, were they cared for mentally and physically? Were they left to die and to fend for themselves? There are many factors to why animals end up reacting the way they. Even some tame animals can go bad due to owners treating them badly or training them to do harm like dog fighting.

Not all creatures will be nice, that is a given, but if you respect them and leave them be, more likely they won't do anything untoward.

Sadly in saying that, a poor plumber was attacked by 3 vicious dogs last week here in Australia, Owner was told to put them inside or have them away from the job site if they were nasty dogs. Well suffice to say the owner didn't do as instructed and the dogs mauled the man with horrible injuries. His ok and recovering in the hospital, however the 3 dogs that mauled him, were put down, even the owner's daughter was injured by them during the attack. It's been known now that these 3 dogs were terrorizing the neighbourhood for some time and the owner was warned if they didn't secure their dogs properly, they would be put down.

If raise animals with such care and love we may avoid these issues, but i'm not sure that will be enough to do it to be honest.

I feel like the question of animals being evil is the same for humans being
evil. Is it a product of how they've been treated, and their life experiences
or is it something in their dna, or their soul that causes them to be wicked
from day one? In my opinion, I feel like it's a mix of both, for animals and
humans... Some dna is more prone to mood swings or anger, some dna
causes mental illness to develop and if events stack up against that
creature, the possible outcome is limited. Often, having a behavior
that appears evil is the result.

Now, if that behavior is ACTUALLY evil and not a misinterpretation
of that creatures feelings and actions... will we ever know?
Is our concept of evil not simply a social construct based on
how we feel about things? and what influences those feelings
we have towards good and evil?

Really, it's all hazy!! I think it's easy for anything to appear evil
to certain people, but personally I believe the concept of evil
is highly subjective and possibly none-existant.
Spoiler
Maybe that dog wasn't evil, maybe it wasn't killing just cause
it could or for fun, but because of some triggered instinct or habit it
developed to ease some sort of stress build up. Maybe it was just
lashing out without meaning to because of abuse. Maybe it was
misunderstood some sort of training in the past that resulted in
it killing. It's hard to say... we barely understand humans.
