i just finished the song of achilles by madeline miller and i cried, it was so soft and gay and beautiful. and i'm currently keeping it from all my friends because i love it so much.

but now i'm on the wise man's fear by patrick rothfuss. it's the second book in the kingkiller chronicle and holy moly it's 1000+ pages. :') rip me. but if it's as sassy as it has been so far all throughout, then it will be a great 1k+ pages.

Well, I just finished my second read-through of "Granite Kiss".

I thought it was going to be more of a reference book, but it reads SO WELL that I was done and hadn't taken any notes and was speculatively eyeing Google Satellite view (not sure if my computer can take the requirements, honestly) before remembering that I'd only meant to read a chapter.
Ha!

I really recommend it.

Just finished "Breakout", by Ann Aguire (Might be "Anne" not "Ann).
It's the third in a sci-fi series of hers, and by the way it ends? Definitely it's the last.
Which is a pity, because I really enjoyed the series!
And all her other books are in first person P.o.V. and she doesn't do first person NEARLY as well as she does third person (iow I find them unreadable, so until she does another 3rd person series that's all I've got from this author)!

But the Dred chronicles are fun reads, and worth picking up.

Anyhow, now I'm about halfway through "Wood Sprites" by Wen Spencer, which is an author I've NEVER had fail me; he or she does absolutely excellent work. :qh: It's also a new installment in a previously established series-world-universe-whatever. And the way it's interwoven in with the previous two, I really want to go read them again! But I can't until I get home. I'm off visiting, and yesterday I went to a bookstore, and so for now I'm stuck trying to remember to leave in all the bookmarks which are placeholders for timeline events I want to check.
(It has a different protagonist than the first few in this world, and it's set in an entirely different area, but the timeline seems to overlap, and they go back and forth a bit with stuff that happened/is happening with the first ones, and it's giving me new ideas and perspectives and I really want to go check again...)

I have just finished reading Alliance, the second book in The Paladin Prophecy series by Mark Frost. I'm a sucker for books with mythical creatures, super abilities, and secret organizations which this book has plenty of. Can't wait to get the next book.

I've been on an Elizabeth Moon kick recently. :qh:

(Interspersed with Naomi Novik's "Temeraire" series, but mostly Elizabeth Moon)

Something about her stories just let me suspend disbelief so readily!

Okay, just finished a re-read of Wen Spencer's series, whatever it's called, the one that goes Tinker, then Wolf Who Rules, then Elfhome and finally/recently Wood Sprites? I can't help thinking that it's not over yet, there are too many questions and issues left hanging. I really hope it's not a finished series.

Anyhow, now I've just picked up Sharon Shinn's Mystic series (Mystic and Rider, Reader and Raelynx, Fortune and Fate, I forget what the other two are called....) to browse through until my latest book holds arrive at the library.

sometimes it is so hard to wait!
