saiyouri, I am so sorry to hear about your cousin and her sister. I can't even imagine how hard that must be for everyone involved.

I think a lot of the problems with all levels of social services (including cops and CPS) is that there's not enough investment in training. So even when you hire social workers or police officers who desperately want to protect the children, they either don't have the training and education to know what to do, or they don't have access to the resources they need.

It is so hard to tell when a child needs to be removed from a home and when a family just needs some support, and our government isn't investing in making certain that the very best people are making those decisions.

Yet somehow, there's money for a small town local police force to buy a tank? That's nonsense.

Thank you Pwale.

I wouldn't doubt in some areas they don't have the proper training. And some are overloaded with too much work that they neglect the ones that do need the help more than the others. Sad how the government is so slow with this and the logics of small towns owning a tank.... It's the government. I learned to never blink for things like that. It just hurts your head to think and understand what is going on.

Fixing the training situation and being overloaded with work is something I don't even understand how people can help fix. Since the government seems to love to give hand outs to the wrong places, like their new renovations in their homes or vacations spots like I heard a few have done lately.

Here's an article I found extremely illuminating on this subject. It's a profile on a special victims unit from the New York Times, titled To Catch A Rapist. It paints a pretty bleak picture of what even the hardest working cops are up against in terms of institutional failure...

There are really so many issues with this stuff.
I have been reading stuff on the studies about rape
and assault on college campus'. There are so many
laws that need to be fixed and it will take a very long
time to fix them. I just hope it doesn't take too long
before my daughter grows up and becomes a woman.

saiyouri: I'm sorry ;~; -hugs-
I hate rapists and child molesters.

I had recently seen where a man molested a baby with his hand, and when the cops confronted him, he was smiling and shit, and he supposedly was just let go, and there was no charges.
Then there was another guy who talked to a 14 year old, who was really a cop, and he made plans, traveled to see her and have sex, and got caught, and all he had to do was pay a fine, and he's free.
There was also another man, who was rich, and I think he just payed a fine, and no other measures taken.
I'm not 100% if these are true, but if they are, it's no surprise.
We also had a family member get charged for molesting his kids. His wife claimed he did it. However, she also inflicted wounds on herself, and told police he did it. Which is a good indication of her being crazy <<

I think that some people don't understand abuse. It leaves a lasting effect on someone for the rest of their life.
It's not like "Welp, I was raped, time to move on 8D"
It's traumatic. You don't just get over it like that.
I have not being touched by anyone, but I've had traumatic events, and while I'm better, it's still there.

Look for me in the white forest
Hiding in a hollow tree (come find me)
I know you hear me,
I can taste it in your tears."

There are a lot of colleges where I live, so campus sexual assault has become a huge issue over the last few years.

I've worked at a couple of the colleges in my area, and I've seen some disturbing things. Right now the conversation is pretty much limited to student-on-student violence, but when we start talking about the way male professors and administrators use and abuse female students THEN we will start making real progress.

At one school, I worked in the faculty dining lounge. This college is one of the oldest, wealthiest and most exclusive schools in the nation and the faculty dining lounge is basically a private club with a buffet and full restaurant service. When I worked there, I noticed that one of the professors would bring a different young, blonde, curvy student with him to lunch every day. He would spend a couple hours dazzling them with stories of his greatness, showing just enough interest in the girl to flatter her, and she would hang on his every word. I didn't need to be an expert on body language to know he was sleeping with at least a handful of those girls--and none of them had any idea that they were being used.

At another school I worked at, they were recovering from some financial problems and so they would host these extravagant donor dinners. They claimed these dinners were to thank the donors--but all the catering staff knew exactly what was going on. Old, rich, white men would fly in from all over the country and come to the dinners. The college would invite a selection of students, who they claimed represented their best and brightest and yet somehow the best and brightest always seemed to be very attractive young women. The old men would spend the evening flirting with the young women, and they would be flattered, and sometimes at the end of the evening the staff would overhear students being invited back to hotel rooms to "discuss their futures." And, coincidentally, a check would soon arrive from the man who had invited a student home with him.

I finally had to swear off working on college campuses, because I really wanted to go back to school and finish my degree and I couldn't even stomach the thought when I had to spend all day every day watching the excess and abuse that goes on behind the scenes.

And I'm not judging the girls. They might have gotten a lot out of these interactions, but the fact that they were all so unaware of the way they were being used makes me furious. It's one thing to say to yourself, okay, I'll ignore this sexual harassment for a little while because in the end I'll be financially secure enough to find a safe place to work. It's another thing to be so naive you don't even notice when you're being pimped.

It's dangerous too. When I was being sexually harassed by my work supervisor at the second college, I kept thinking to myself "well, he's just being inappropriate and not actually threatening and I really need this job so...."
Then, one night, he tried to rape me and when I escaped and got in my car he tried to follow me home. I had to drive 100 mph at midnight on tiny dirt back roads to lose him. If I had listened to my instincts and reported him sooner, I wouldn't have had to go through that.
Fortunately, he was just a supervisor, and so there was a higher authority I could appeal to. Over half of the management team was women, so when I went to my actual boss and told her what happened the first thing she did was wrap me in a big hug and apologize for not protecting me better. The second thing she did was have my supervisor escorted from the premises, and someone walked me to my car for a month afterwards in case he tried to come back. In the weeks that followed, other women began to approach me and thank me quietly for reporting him. Apparently he'd been hurting a lot of people, but everyone was too scared to stop him. I even found out that in the days before I reported him he'd started following some of the female students back to their dorms.

This experience taught me that if you don't deal with a predator, you're not just putting yourself in danger. You're putting everyone around you in danger too.

And I don't harbor resentment towards my supervisor either. He was an alcoholic having a mental breakdown and his behavior was more of a reflection on himself. He ended up in the intensive care a few weeks later, and to this day I don't know if he survived.

Also, are you guys following the latest news from the election? I am SHOCKED by the incompetence of the Democrats in Nevada.

They were having a convention to decide the delegates, and the DNC was trying to flip the state delegates to Clinton. The place went nuts. Violence erupted. And the media response was to be shocked that these weren't Trump voters.

Here's a blow-by-blow of what happened, with video links.
https://www.reddit.com/r/SandersForPres ... terday_at/

Excuse me? Have you guys not noticed that THE ENTIRE COUNTRY IS FURIOUS WITH YOU ASSHOLES?!?! At this point, they're not underestimating Trump. They're underestimating the voters.

Honestly, at this point I think if we lose November it's going to be because of Democratic incompetence.

But I'm also growing worried that Sanders might be losing control of his campaign, too. There's a huge mismatch between the things he says in public and the emails I get from his campaign. I listen to him speak and he's all about non-violence and community organizing and intelligent conversation and healthy debate--all that good stuff. And then I get an email from his campaign and it's basically REPENT YE SINNERS FOR CLINTON IS TRYING TO MURDER YOUR PUPPY!!!!!!!

o.0 That is the most insane email I heard of Pwale. God I hope Sanders can get things under control with his team.

And I am truly sorry for what you experience and witnessed. At least you did report the guy.

It's sick how those "dinners" were going on. Shocking and I shouldn't be surprised either. I just don't know what to say anymore. This world really needs help. Especially this fricken country.

Moi- I wouldn't doubt alot of those are true. Sad how people get away with things like that. But of course what am I saying. Look at priests. They seem to have nothing happen to them but go to a new church and start the crap all over again. It's like no one thinks this stuff stays with a person.

Hell my own abuse and crap I went through sits with me every single day. If it wasn't for me meeting my fiance I would still be terrified of sex today. But he makes me feel safe and I know he won't do a thing to me.

I haven't been keeping up to date with the election crap. Slowly working my way on getting caught up to now at the moment. So hopefully Trump gets hit with a hammer soon.

Jesus christ my two kitties almost fell out of my third story window. >..>

Election coverage is switching back to focus on the Supreme Court, since there's no voting for the next few weeks.
