Sorry I don't have the mushroom subsidy up yet, things have been a little busy lately with the semester coming to an end, and my birthday coming up (>:D). I'll have it up soon here.

That's a very interesting way of drawing with the color blobs first Eva, I would never have thought of trying something like that =3

I've never heard that saying about busy people xD I've only heard the one where if you want something done as efficiently as possible, give it to a lazy person LOL.

Efficient but slow? XD I dunno.
And thanks, I only do the blobs like that because I like the colors in the knuffel to balance out :) I'm kind of ocd like that.

And you're fine AND HAPPY EARLY BIRTHDAY AAAAAAAAAAAH! :qh:

Hahaha thank you xD ~~~

Ahhh, that makes sense. I always fuss with my colors using hue/saturation and such to get them to balance better once I've got a bunch of them laid down already. Sometimes it's hard to choose what variation looks the best and I end up with like 4 in different folders that I flip on and off until I decide. Or I change the opacity on the folders and end up with a hodgepodge of all of them xD

This all sounds so technical and abstruse and specialized and intimidating...

I can draw with crayons. :P

How long did it take you guys to master these tricks?

I'm still learning how to use gimp properly and I've had it for 6 years now. XD
But colors are one of the things I've always been really good at. So that part's easy for me.

True, true, for most things you never stop learning, but still. It sounds super complicated and impressive and I am really amazed at your dedication to learn these skills! It's very awesome!

Perhaps it sounds that way, but in reality it's more me making random copies of layers and flailing the bars on the hue/saturation/contrast/whatever I'm playing with wildly about until I like the result xD

I do admit that it gets easier, faster, and more effective the more you practice playing around with it (I've personally been drawing digitally for about....8 years now? I think?), but it's not really that difficult, just takes practice and experimenting.

That also applies to most of drawing, honestly. I've probably learned more from drawing quick, scribbled, nonsense pictures that from doing anything else. Not that practising technical stuff isn't important, you just learn a lot more things in a short period of time from going crazy and making a bunch of random mistakes.

Mistakes being more valuable that painstakingly precise practice? In terms of sheer time spent?

I would say personally that mistakes aren't really helpful as they can form bad habits. But watching and looking at tutorials and practicing helps, I need to do that more often. And I need to get a touch sensitive tablet some day T^T

Pretty much. You can practice drawing hands over and over, and you will definitely get better at hands. Which is good, nothing wrong with that. But if you draw lots of little nonsense things as well and don't always take every picture seriously, you'll figure out a lot of things about color, techniques, textures, ect. that are more broad and useful to drawing in general instead of just one thing, and you'll come up with stuff you may never have thought of otherwise. I'm not sure if that makes any sense, and basic technique and stuff does still make a huge difference, I just think I'd be a much crappier artist if I had spent 100% of my time over the years drawing very seriously and only doing technical practice with no doodles or scribbles xD

Fair enough Eva, I can see where you're coming from. I think it can depend a lot on the type of artist =3
