I don't think Shane tries too hard to make it obvious to Adam, either. He's pretty prideful for better or for worse so he plays it off like "I just want to be alone" rather than the insecurity it really is.

I think Shane is probably disgusted with himself for missing Adam's attention, too.

He spends a lot of his days laying in bed alone, I'm sure. And everybody knows it.

He's still able to do his job on a professional level but it probably involves a lot less face-to-face conversation and more leaving notes for Adam.

That's the worst, honestly. So much of their professional dynamic had to change too! Adam is just, sigh, too stubborn to just admit he wants Shane around. He doesn't want to be weak for wanting that.

But, you know, he still did go and hide on the Surface with the Perfects for a few weeks after it happened so. Haha. (':

Wellll Shane is hiding out during that time too so it's fine.

Except for when he snaps at Lilith about Adam being on the surface that one time because yes that is Canon.

Even after Adam starts to come back and be around more though Shane is still notoriously Absent, but he's getting his work done so it's fine right? Right.

Those are the excuses they're gonna tell themselves then, aight. They're so dumb and in love, wow! Even when they're both so hurt! Amazing!

As long as things proceed according to plan though, it's fine. It's fine if they rarely see each other! It's better, actually, if you think about it! Less attachment in case something goes wrong, right??

I like to wonder like... how much things have really changed.

Like obviously, their relationship changed, it changed the way both of them interact with Grace and Gabe... but like, lmao, Lilith and Shane fighting about it. And what about the Perfects? They met Shane, they knew he and Adam were together whether Adam or Shane admitted it or not... how often did Shane visit the surface with Adam lmao...

And how sickly and pale does he start to look after he stops going with Adam and spends all day in bed???

Oh yeah and he goes back to grooming his wings by himself uwu

And obviously they don't go on little gay dates anymore and probably avoid all the things they used to do together...

The list goes on really and it's Terrible.

Both of them would get a lot more moody and depressed I'd think, especially because neither of them are moving on. Adam eventually moved on from Benjamin, but the same isn't happening with Shane.

It's kind of sad thinking about how they just cut those parts out of their lives. Whole scores of activities that are off the table now. Not to mention, as you said, how is effected those on the Surface.

Sigh, Shadam.

Run back to Benji, Adam.

Basically all the joy gets sucked out of Shane's life so that's cool. No, it's not healthy he relied on Adam so much... but eventually he does get over that, but for the time being...lol. And he is like high key In Love with Adam so that makes it so much harder.

I can't believe they're In Love and Endgame, still. So this is all like, wow, we're really putting them through the grinder. SIGH.

Adam deals with this by getting busy and throwing himself into his plans and work, and by getting defensive so that's totally super healthy too.

And it just keeps getting worse too lol like not only is there all this awful Shadam angst, but then all these new people (to Adam, anyway) get introduced, and then there's the nightmare on the Surface..............

And they both have to keep it together and be Mom and Dad even if they really don't want to because they're the only two who are responsible enough to handle everything.

I love the Mom and Dad thing, it's the truest thing I've ever read. I wonder if everyone starts to take them for granted? Like, that they'll always be Mom and Dad or always be around even when they're upset like they are.
