I'm pretty sure Blind Guardian count as metal - awesome German band. They do songs themed after all sorts of things, including Lord of the Rings. One of their albums is entirely a musical retelling of Tolkien's Silmarillion, and it is seriously cool.

Are you talking to me or Merry? Merry's English is better.
I learned British English for 9 years in school. Nowadays they start even earlier to teach it. Of course they don't teach you how people actually talk and no heavy slang. Played English card games for some years. Sometimes I watch TV shows in English (they are usually American so I'm more used to hear that. Always a bit strange to hear someone say "bloody" xD)

Can someone please make it stop raining? T-T Don't wanna stand around in the rain for 12 hours today.

I'm not sure if I ever heard Blind Guardian although they are pretty well-known :mcconf: Checking them on youtube. ...Hmmmmmm. No. Not really. I don't like that type of metal very much :<

Blind Guardian's style varies quite a lot - I'm quite fond of the song they use as a crowd song at their concerts. Much more melodic than their usual.

Video is blocked in Germany >.>
Trying to find unblocked version... Oh that's quite nice. I like this medieval sound.
Usually I'm more into death metal. But medieval stuff is cool.

Medieval can be so pretty - like stuff by Heather Dale. Some of her songs are hauntingly beautiful, like 'Mordred's Lullaby.'

Mood: Hey doc, I'm not feeling well. I've had the tits all day.
Lol, to be honest I can't remember how I learned English. No one ever tried to teach me, that's for sure.
As far as it's in my head it was "No hablo English" -> +10 years -> "Speak English fluently and correcting teachers since school started teaching English at the age of 11".
But I've got a huge thing for picking up languages. In Germany most shows are synchronized, right? Here in Holland they aren't. Games and such are barely translated in Dutch. At the age of 8 I got my GBC with Pokémon Yellow, which was completely in English. I barely understood but I kept playing it until I dropped, and that together with TV and a holiday in Ireland did it I think.
I have no idea where the grammar came from, but in Dutch I'm a nazi about that too.
That I can't seem to grasp it in German seems to be a very annoying fluke. >>

I am more surprised that you actually live in the USA, the biggest English speaking country in the world, and you say you barely speak it. How did that happen? Did you move to the USA? If so, what is your native tongue? Just curious!

I don't think I've ever heard Blind Guardian either, but I'm not into metal. I do believe I almost accidentally ordered a necklace of them because it contained a dragon. x'D /naive little girl
I have heard Rammstein of course (after 10 years I still can't get the bloody song 'America' out of my head) and someone introduced me to Oomph! a while ago, and I must say I really like that, though that's probably not considered metal anymore. I don't know. Shoot me.

Oooh danke Julez *o*

Yeah right, almost everything here is synchronized. I often hear its different in Scandinavia and thats why they speak English so well. Sooo in Holland too. I'm a bit envious. But just a bit.
I remember when they published Final Fantasy VI for Playstation here it was completely English and all the gaming magazines went apeshit about that. How dare you Square you just wanna make money. To greedy to translate your games!!!! :mcmeh:
Another grammar Nazi ♥ I can be such an asshole when it comes to German grammar and spelling. So you better don't try to speak German with me Merry unless you have perfect grammar :mccool:

A friend of me had a Blind Guardian Shirt for years without knowing the band. ...Yes he bought it because of the dragons. So you are not alone xD
Oomph! is more for Goths I think ... Not sure. Don't really know what the Gothics like o.o

Hm, you could yell at me for using wrong grammar, but as a native speaker vs. a foreigner with interest for your language who only had useless lessons, you might also use your skill and talent to teach me how to properly speak it. ;D
I can't stand mistakes from native speakers, but I'll happily correct and explain to foreigners who try to learn either Dutch or English.
It would be lovely if I could develop the same skill in German, but without help it's no use. The worst thing is that I can't speak it anywhere around here. People barely speak English, let alone German. What am I saying? They barely even speak civilized Dutch!
Every now and then I drop into a German hangout but it takes a lot of energy so most of the time I'm forced to leave it. And what bugs me most is that I just can't seem to get a grasp on those stupid... yeah I don't even know what they're called. We call them 'naamvallen'. Der, die, das. Dein, deiner, deinem, deines... when to use what form. I think that's the worst flaw in my German.
