Tsk, tsk. It's ignorant to judge someone by their hobbies, or by any other singular aspect of themselves. Besides, I believe intelligent people tend to be well-rounded.
Also, some anime are brilliant --like Baccano! --it's a complex and well-made art in itself! Anime, movies, books, video games... whatever it is you're into, if it doesn't hurt anyone and makes you happy, I say go for it.
@Yuuko: I am a combination of intelligent, dumb, and normal. Some days I'm all three. :D (But don't tell anyone --it's my superhero disguise.)
@KC: Those kinds of comments crack me up. I love to read, so people are always assuming that just because I like to read (or write, in some cases), then I love to read/write anything. This is not so. Reading and writing is a skill and a hobby, and when it becomes work, it's no longer fun.
I believe that you get a lot out of what you enjoy, if you really enjoy it. It might not always make you smarter, but it'll make you happier, and that's what counts. I'm with you; you can get imagination from other things.
@Moi: That's why you never finished Interview with the Vampire, hm? I only quit books if they're really lame in some way (like dry characters or scenarios that squick me), but I'd like to think I'm somewhat tolerant as a reader --for genres that I'm interested in, anyways. I'm always willing to try new things with books.
What you said about books and pictures is funny Moi, because that's the issue going on in Gaia's RP forum right now. People are demanding images with writing; it's laughable, really. I mean, I understand that people have their preferences, but I also feel like that place is downgrading in writers.
