I've read a number of stories where various magic-users are missing one eye and have a gem replacement that aids their power in some fashion.
What always struck me as curious about those stories, is... why only one? My godmother's youngest has a missing eye from an infection back when he was a baby, and while he had just the one glass replacement when we were younger, he had to take it out and clean it regularly (he had the BEST tricks he could play), and by the time we were older he had a whole collection, and would swap them around depending how he felt that day. My favorite was this opaque black one, I kept telling him he needed to get one just like it with the constellations on it in miniature so it looked like the sky.
Anyhow.
Always made me wonder why those mages in the stories only ever had the one.
If you do that, I'm curious if they're like the fake eyes where you can pop them out and replace them and swap them around and all, or if they're some organic, magically-melded-and-self-cleaning permanent, semi-functional replacement.
