children's songs

So I recently met a newish cousin (age less than a decade, hadn't seen that branch of the family in over a decade. Is that a new cousin or not? Dunno), and we got onto the subject of children's songs.
She knew this one, it was about an old woman who swallowed a fly, and then progressively larger animals to deal with the fly -and then the next whatever-it-was-
until it kills her.
And I started thinking about some of the children's songs I sang when I was little.
And so many of them are also rather disturbing!
So I'm wondering if other people find that too?
Did you use to blithely and happily sing songs which, when you look at the lyrics now, really make you wonder what was going on in the composer's head?
(Also, what did she swallow after the cat? We got distracted and I didn't find out. Anyone know this song? It goes fly, spider, bird, cat..... what?)
