Kingdom of Knuffel

Right, this is just going to be the handy place where it doesn't matter if I post multiple times in a row while trying to figure something out.


Specifically, the rates of return for food points to xp for regular knuffel when buying, leveling, giving up for adoption, and then readopting.

Basics:

Knuffel costs 1900 to buy it the first time.
Readoption is also going to cost 1900

So anything returning less than 3800 is a loss.

you get 1k when you level to 10.
If you level to 19 you get 1k, plus 1.9k from giving it up for adoption.
That's 2.9k.
Negative return (less than 3.8k)

At level 20....
You've gotten 1k from lvl 10, + 1k from lvl 20.
2k from that.

You get another 2k from giving it up for adoption.

That's 4k.

Positive return.

Okay, so I'm only going to start calculating from level 20.

It takes 1984 xp to reach level 20.
4k is the return.
3.8k is the cost.
200 is the profit

200/1984 means you get a rate of return of 0.10081 per xp.

It takes 2188xp to reach level 21.

You get 1k each at lvls 10 and 20, total of 2k.
You get 2.1k for giving it up.
Cost is 3.8k.
Profit is 300

300/2188 means the rate of return (how much food you get in return for the xp) is 0.13711 per xp.

It takes 2403 xp to reach lvl 22.
You gain 2k + 2.2k for leveling and giving it up.
Cost is 3.8k.
Profit is 400

400/2403 means the rate of return at level 22 is 0.16646

(so far it's not even worth doing at all when it's below level 20, and each level afterwards gives a greater return for your effort. Pretty sure that won't last forever, as the xp requirements continue to increase)

It takes 2627xp to reach level 23.
Gain is 2k + 2.3k = 4.3k
Cost is 3.8k
Profit is 500

500/2627 = rate of return of 0.19033

(still going up)

It takes 2862xp to reach level 24.
Gain is 2k + 2.4k = 4.4k
Cost is 3.8k
Profit is 600

600/2862 = rate of return of 0.20964

(still going up)

It takes 3106xp to reach level 25.
Gain is 2k + 2.5k = 4.5k
Cost is 3.8k
Profit is 700

700/3106 = rate of return of 0.22537

(still going up!)
