From the spoilers that I read, it sounds like it got even goofier from there too.
Spoiler
So Dani breaks off the engagement out of fear of Rafe telling everyone lies about her. Dani and Rafe get married. Dani is infertile due to an accident a few years ago. But Rafe wants an heir. But then a magical necklace cures her, and she gets pregnant, and everyone is happy, the end.
. I hate that kind of "control/threats/abuse = romance" kind of story. And I also hate when authors ignore all logic and just have things fall into place in ways that don't even make sense.

I'm now reading The Lie and the Lady, and I am happier with that. It's the sequel to the book I read a couple weeks ago, the one where the earl and his secretary switched places. Well, the secretary (while pretending to the earl) starting dating a countess named Letty. Initially, Letty was a poor widow looking to marry a rich man. But then she really started to like John. But when she found out that everything was a lie and he wasn't who he said he was, she couldn't forgive him. So book 2 starts a year later. They have gone their separate ways, Letty was barely making ends meet, but now she is engaged to marry a rich old man. But then she finds out that John and the rich old man are practically neighbors. She doesn't want anything to ruin her marriage, and John doesn't want anything to ruin the business deal that he is hoping to make with the rich old man, but they both still have feelings for the other, and they also each don't trust the other to not try and ruin things for them.

Absolutely!

I mean, each fiction work has its own internal logic, so I'm ok with accepting strange things to happen because it's an strange world or an strange situation or whatever.
But it's got to make sense. Make sense for the world, the situation AND over all for the characters.

You've got this character who has behaved on a certain way all thought the book, you can't suddently have them change their mind just because that's the way the story has the end you wanted to. You must build their arc in a way that the change of mind makes sense.
Or reach a completely different end. That would be fine. Actually it's so refreshing when that happens, when the end is not OBVIOUS from the beginning.

I finished Tom Sawyer. Now I am reading The Orphan's Tale by Pam Jenoff. I started reading it a long time ago on hoopla, then it was gone, now it's back, so I am picking up where I left off, so I am 3/4 through it.

My goal was 10, and I think I am at 11 now. I might hit hit 12. So that was pretty good for me.

My initial goal was 6 I think, but then I thought I might hit 10. It's not going to happen, haha. Still hit the initial goal, so that's a victory.

I finished The Orphan's Tale.

I also read The Watsons, which is a very short book that Jane Austin started but never finished.

Now I am about to start reading Emma Watson, which is a book that another author wrote based on where Jane Austin left off. According to GoodReads, a lot of people hate the other author's book, so we'll see...

I haven't read much lately.
I should finish this last book before the year end, to complete my challenge. I did not think I would be so tight on time... but here I am
