From The Book of Questions by Gregory Stock.

Question #60: Would you add one year to your life if it meant taking one year from the life of someone in the world selected at random? Would it matter if you were told whose life you had shortened?

As of right now, no, I would not do this. If I was given so many years to live, then I might want to say yes to this. Regardless I would not want to know whose life I would have shortened because I would not want to know their age, their health condition, or their story.

I definitely wouldn't. I don't think it's right or fair to make someone else suffer or lose out on your behalf.
Even if you could know that it was a really evil person whose life you were shortening, I don't think it would be worth it. It's only a year. And you don't know how long you will live for yet. What if you'll end up being 112 years old and wishing you would just die already because you're so tired and in pain all the time, and yet you've got to get to 113 cuz you made a deal.

nope - doing that would be saying I am more important than some random person and I am not. I don't think it would be a pleasant year thinking about how wrong a decision it was anyways

I don't think I could do it if it was a random person. Knowing who it was would not make it any better. Now, if I could choose the person, then I admit I would definitely do it.

I wouldn't do it, it would feel like cheating the matrix..
