From The Book of Questions by Gregory Stock.
Question #59: By controlling medical research funds, you are in a position to guarantee that a cure will be found in 15 years for any disease you choose. Unfortunately, no progress on any others would be made during that period. Would you target one disease?

This is a loaded question, and as much as I would love to have a cure or early detection for pancreatic cancer, I feel like it would be too cruel taking away precious years of researching other serious diseases.

When it says "disease", does it mean one particular disease?
(Another confusing question xD)
Like Rubie said with pancreatic cancer - could you cure ALL cancer or just one type of cancer?
Because I refer to all cancers as a disease.
So I'd assume if I said yes, then all cancers would be cured 8u
I've lost several people to cancer, so I'd love for no one else to die or lose anyone.
But it does sound cruel to ignore finding cures for other diseases.

I was thinking about cancer too. If you could cure every kind of cancer, I wonder if it would work out to saving enough people to make it worth it.

I would say no because science generally moves faster than that anyway. Yes, there are 'big' diseases that we all know about because they cannot yet be cured. But there are also new things coming to light all the time which they are able to study, figure out, and produce a cure for.
Also, kind of a funny point, but what if the researchers were only 6 years away from finding a cure for the disease you chose? Now you made them wait another 9 years because you just had to interfere XD

That's a good point!

You know, that could be said about a lot of things.
When you interfere, you might be messing things up.
Your intentions are good, but you end up screwing things up xD

Very true. A self-fulfilling prophecy. The very thing you do to try and make things better is the thing that messes everything up.
I am bad at that. I interfere and meddle. Normally things would probably turn out fine, but I have this thing inside me which insists on saying "no, but you could do it quicker/better/more easily this way" instead of just shutting up. People get annoyed at me XD
