I’m not around much anymore on the site but I then to lurk time to time. So I’m not really sure of the age census anymore of the site.

Some Background before my rant and chat
Mid last year my mom was diagnosed with Stage 4 Cervical Cancer. I do not own a car so having to take Ubers and Lyfts to the hospital were Atleast 40 dollars both ways.

Sadly on April 12th, she lost her battle. She had just came home from the hospital 2 days prior because she in because she was really sick one day.

The funeral home had wanted over 2000 dollars just to cremate her with zero memorial service.

With all that said. I hate how we haven’t found a cure for some of this stuff. It’s really ridiculous. And then if you want treatment...it’s thousands of dollars (here in the United States) to get treatment if you aren’t insured.

THEN if you pass away...it’s going to be a few more thousand just to do what you or you loved ones had planned on.

I want to say it’s sickening especially for someone who barely makes more then minimum wage and is the only one who pays bills.

I would like to hear your thoughts, concerns, etc on this. On why does everything have to be so god awful expensive.

I'm sorry about your mom. I completely agree. I'm surprised we haven't cured more things by now. I think it's absurd that we don't give everyone healthcare. And I think funeral expenses are too high. I haven't had real health insurance in about 15 years. For me to get it, it starts at $300 a month, but it doesn't actually cover anything at that price. To get it to actually cover anything, I have to pay more like $800 a month. Luckily I at least have Family Planning Benefits, which I think is a NY state thing, so get free paps. I had a pre-cancerous spot on my cervix. They referred to me a hospital, and they cut it out. But it was actually still a hassle because I guess most people don't ONLY have Family Planning Benefits for their health coverage, so the hospital was really confused about it and kept trying to bill me for $4,000. When my husband's mother died, we had to pay over $2,000 too, just for cremation, no service, no fancy urn, or anything like that.

I'm sorry about your mom...

I get both sides though. If you want good service, the people who work have to get paid, and everything they use is also expensive. I prefer to pay a lot to a funeral service and be sure that the body of the deseased is treated with dignity and everything is done well than have a cheap thing where there's not enough employees to provide that type of good service.
If it was free for the individual, then it would have to be paid from taxes, and apparently people don't want to do that.

But I also get that it's (usually) just bad luck with sickness, and that being healthy shouldn't be something to get broke about. I really don't get why the USA doesn't get a good healthcare system, like many countries do. If I get sick, I would pay close to nothing.
Being healthy shouldn't be a thing that only rich people can afford.

Sorry to hear about your mom. I hope you are doing well.

And I don't get why it's so expensive in the USA.
In my country 99% of people get buried and all the ceremony is about 800 american dollars. And the state gives us 600 dollars back if we put in a request.
It really shouldn't be so expensive to give a deceset person a proper bureing and I don't know why in the USA it's so expensive. What if you don't have the money?

I'm so sorry you lost your mom.
I fucking hate cancer.
It's taken a lot of people away from me.

This country is shitty when it comes to helping people.
Everything is money money money and me me me.

I currently have insurance because of my disability, but if I were to lose that - I'd have no way to get my medications anymore.
I know a lot of people that barely get by because they can't afford to do anything without assistance due to disabilities and sicknesses and such.

I once told my dad that I can afford to die because I have life insurance but not live because I couldn't get health insurance xD

The entire funeral industry in the USA is a huge scam. I'm not even joking. The industry has been throwing money at politicians for a very long time and made it illegal for almost anything that would make them lose money - people have been fined huge amounts by the government for burying a loved ones body on their own, or refusing price-hiked embalming services. They take advantage of people when they are grieving and aren't thinking clearly into buying incredibly overpriced coffins and other services. The blatant corruption is honestly disgusting but nothing is being done because so few people are aware of the cause - politicians refusing to serve the people because of the money from funeral lobbyists. /rant

This is so accurate and it’s completely sickening. Healthcare and things like this is so sickening because of the price hikes. They honestly don’t care. If they did thing would not be that expensive. I honestly hate the corruption.

That is accurate, the country is so self absorbed when it comes to everything. I would personally love to get back on my meds and take care of myself but I just can’t afford too right now. I don’t have health insurance or anything.

I know there are people in this country that give a damn, but they don't seem to hold quite enough power.
With the way the country is now, I don't feel like the government cares about me or my family xD

I actually had a neighbor die a couple of days ago.
Her family couldn't afford a funeral service and they need assistance to cremate her.
That's just...bullshit. Everyone deserves a funeral service.

I have friends from the US, but Canada and Europe too.
I've mentioned not having money to see a doctor or get meds, and they were like "What do you need money for o___O?"

It really is a bunch of bullshit. I’d love to live in another country where we wouldn’t have to worry so much about certain things.

I keep seeing people talk about how serious mental illness is and how people need help, but they keep bringing up stuff to screw over people on government assistance.
I only have insurance because I'm disabled.
If they took my assistance away, I couldn't see doctors, my therapist or get my medication.
I can't go without my medication.
I felt crazy when I didn't have it.
And I'm not like "Whooo I'm crazy!" crazy - actually unstable and paranoid as fuck crazy xD
I remember when my insurance got mixed up and I didn't know and I went to see my psychiatrist and they told me I needed to pay so I couldn't see him. I had no money.
But you know - mental illness is being taken so seriously.

And I also see sick and disabled people going without their medication because they can't afford it.

This is my country and I love living here, but there's so much shit that needs to be redone.
And people say "If you don't like it, leave!" which is a dumb response.
