Forgeting Meanings

I went to the rules under the "Help" tab because I had a question in regards to a bit of art I wanted. I have seen some words there I have heard of but forgot the meaning of. It is safe to say what I wanted would fall under the obscene definition, and I had to look up vulgar as well. Those two words... I should have known what they meant without having to employ a dictionary to learn what they meant.
Words also evade my memory... even when I was about to use them, and I blame my lack of reading. Right now, I had to look up "severe" as well before I used it in this post.
Has anyone else here forgotten words that should be easy to remember the meaning of?

No, I don't usually forget meanings or spellings ... but my partner does, so I am always helping him to correct his spelling or telling him what something means. He is super smart, and always gets so down on himself when he has to ask me how to spell or what something means.
He just forgets sometimes. Nothing to do with intelligence.

Ah, at least I'm not the only one. Are they easy words like the ones I mentioned in the original post, or are they the more obscure words?

I do that a lot! I call it 'tip of the tongue syndrome' because, really, I *do* know the words, I've just forgotten. It happens a lot, and usually with common words, and for me it's almost always nouns.
We'll be setting the table, and I'll look at it and say, "Oh! We forgot those what-cha-ma-call-ems, the cloth squares that go on your lap to catch food spills!" and someone else will say, "Napkins?".
Yes. Napkins. I'd forget the word for napkin.
Or other words like that. It's not that they're particularly obscure words, I just blank on them if I've not had cause to say or use the word in a while. I mean, how often do you actually SAY "napkin"?!

Oh gosh! That's a bit like me! I was on another site, and I wanted to ay "Over zealous" but I couldn't think of it, even though I knew what it was. That's a good name for it too! It doesn't happen to me often; though it has happened to me often recently.

I get it all the time. >.< You can't tell so much when it's just looking at text-things that are being written because you don't see the way I'll stop and pop open a new tab and type in "NaCl common name" because I can't remember salt, but internet search saves it and I keep typing and then in the final post you'd never know I had to stop and look it up.
My family jokes that no one will know when I'm going senile because it'll look the same.
>.<

I can usually remember the meanings, but not the words.
I can know what I want to say and why, but can't remember the word for it.
I'm so horrible lately with words. Can't remember simple things.
If I want to say "Open the door!" I can't think of the word door.
I also get words completely jumbled up.

Oh! Yes!
Like I'll be trying to say 'inadvertent' and instead say 'inopportune'. Those are very different, brain!

That is so true, but I don't do that. I try and describe what I mean, or what I am thinking of. I like to joke, and I would joke like that, but at the same time, hey.

If I know the meaning, I can look it up in the dictionary if I am looking for the word, but I usually don't because I post about the word while talking to someone with texts.

How do you manage to look it up in the dictionary? Without knowing the actual word to figure out where to look in the dictionary, wouldn't it be a bit like blindly reading through it to find a word that fits?
