Self Checkout

I've always been bad at being out in public and talking to people I don't know or don't feel comfortable around.
So it's a nightmare having to deal with cashiers.
I'm never rude and I never rush and I don't ignore them.
But I tend to...be stupid in public.
I do and say the stupidest things.
My voice also comes out rough or aggressive when I don't mean for it to.
And sometimes it's not even me talking. I avoid eye contact and I worry they'll think I'm a snob.
I go to self checkouts. It's fast and easy.
It's perfect for people like me and I'm glad they have a lot of them in some stores.
However, I don't like the idea of them just getting rid of cashiers.
People that aren't like me don't mind dealing with cashiers.
My mom and dad will have whole conversations with them.
My mom even knows a lot of workers at the grocery store and talks to them.
Do you use self checkouts?

I'm stupid in public too. But I hate self-checkout! The robot voice always yells at me! If I put my reusable shopping bag on the thing, then it yells at me to take the item out and scan it (even though it's my bag, not an item). If I try just setting my bag on the floor, then putting the stuff in it from there, then it yells at me to put the item in the bag (even though I did, it just doesn't know that I did). You have to time it just right I guess and put your item in the bag and set your bag there at the same time. But I hate getting yelled at by the robot! It makes me feel even more flustered than the cashier! Especially since the place that I usually go has some really good cashiers.

the only place I can use self-checkout is the airport, it seems.... everywhere else I always end up with something that has to call a person over, and that rather defeats the point of self-checkout.
Sigh.

I usually like going to the cashier because I like the interaction. It is not like I have lengthy conversations, but I still like to say hi and wish them a good day. I use self check out when I am in a bad mood or if it is very crowded at the cashier.

I use self-checkout for small, non-sale shopping. Because with new prices, most shops don't really care where they put the new barcode and then the self-checkout machine gets all confused and stops working and as Akili Li said, that defeats the point of self-checkout because you need to wait for someone from staff anyway. But I really like the option especially if I'm buying just few things - I don't have to wait, people behind me in the line don't have to wait while I fumble for the money while picking up my things at the same time (I'm stupid in public too), not sure about the cashiers but maybe they're happy too.

Sanssouci: >XD You're so cute 8,u
But I've heard that complaint before.
People that bring their own bags get harassed.
My family uses the "It's better to use an actual cashier 8u" argument.
But I just prefer self-checkout.
I usually don't have a lot of money, so it'll be a few groceries or pet supplies.
I like to go in, get stuff, pay, and get out as fast as possible xD;

I use self checkout all the time if a store has it. I can bag my items the way I want them bagged. I usually am shopping on the way home from work, too, so I’m tired and cranky by then and I really don’t want to have to hold a conversation with anybody. Unfortunately only one of the stores I go to has self checkout.

I almost always opt for self-checkout. I'm anxious enough as it is that getting myself to leave the house to get groceries can be hard. Sometimes I'm just not feeling up to a social interaction as well at the very end.

I use self-checkout all the time because there's usually no line and it's a lot easier on the anxiety scanning discount cards and paying specific amounts by machine instead of asking a person to do it. I don't mind checking out by cashier, but given the choice I'll go self-checkout most of the time.

I prefer self check-outs because they are faster, though everyone else don't like them. I would prefer cashiers to not be removed, though.
