Hi everyone!
Many people write with the aid of their keyboards, but some prefer to stay old school, enjoying notebooks or even typewriters. In my opinion, no way is better, both have their pros and cons. I crank out things faster on my electronics, but when I write with my special writing pen in a designated writing journal, inspiration flows like nothing else.
I'm here to ask, what do you prefer?
Generally, I either write on my iPhone or my kindle fire apps. I have a cool app on my kindle that I love using. It's ruled into categories where I can separate stories and put them in different areas. I use each category differently. I have a character named Jade and she has a green background, for example. The bgs really inspire me to remember, "Oh, yeah, I'm writing about x!" It's one of the only times the psychology of color applies to me. :P Also, writing a romance scene (I find that conversations are much more important to the plot than, say, a kissing scene for example. I am meaning an emotional romance scene over physical here) I find that it really helps to use a pink or red background. On my phone, I use an app that I believe is called Werdsmith? It has a word tracker if you make a project note instead of an idea note, and I love seeing the numbers go up. And I don't have to count them myself!
I also write on MS Word on my laptop. I share it with my twin sister, however, so I can't write on that as often as I like.
The downside to electronics is, I need to be using that specific electronic if I want to reread something I wrote earlier. A journal, you don't have to worry about it. Also, it's more fun to flip through filled pages instead of spend forever and a half scrolling down to where you left off.

I feel like when I write on paper on on the comp (I do both) my words flow differently and my style changes. So there are some stories I choose to write on paper and some on the comp. Though the former I normally wouldn't prefer because I'd eventually have to go through the tedium of transcribing onto the comp, I'd do most of my writing between classes at school since I didn't have much time to myself at home. So I had to write first drafts on paper, and since I wrote in notebooks for the longest time I'll be soft about it.

My eyes don't get tired if I'm writing on paper, but editing isn't so easy and oh, the inevitable transcribing. I tend to get words down much faster on the comp, too. So I like both the old school and modern and wouldn't like to relinquish either.

I have an easier time writing out my emotions on paper. On the other hand, I can only write pages and pages of reports on a keyboard. The different methods have their functions.

I agree! I feel like my more serious stories come out more serious on paper than on a device, usually. This is a good asset to use, so I should take more note of it.

(And Lianna--I'm left-handed as well, so I do know the struggle! I write fairly lightly though so it's not too huge of a problem.)

I type anything that takes inspiration. Like essays and short stories.

I do like writing lists and notes on paper though. I really like crossing things off and being able to color code stuff.

Google docs - that way, I can access whatever I'm working on from virtually wherever (work computer if I have down time, home computer, laptop if traveling) without having to carry around something that I could lose or misplace.

Also, I frequently rewrite or heavily edit huge portions of my writings. Whiteout just doesn't cut it ;)

I sound pretentious even to myself when I say this, but the truth is I love old typewriters. My parents gave me my first one for Christmas when I was 8, and I've collected them ever since. There's just something about the clack of the keys that helps me find my rhythm when writing. My favorite is my Oliver No. 9, because it's such a unique piece and I always feel like I've gone back in time when I use it.

Yes!! I'm left handed and writing with hand is such a pain. Addition to that I have veerrryyy sweaty hands so I can erase words (and also ruin the paper) without using an eraser. Sigh.

So I really really can't write with hand and even with simple note taking I prefer Google Docs and a conputer, but I just broke the laptop keyboard last week with what I think was my sweat....oh oh.....
