▂ ▃ ▅ ▆ The Inbetween

The Inbetween is a curious tavern - situated in a place between the waking worlds, not marked on any maps or with any translatable directions, but those who need a respite will always be able to find their way to it.
It's large squat structure is fairly typical tavern fare - stone washed walls, dark oak beams, thatched roof, crawling ivy and a swinging wooden sign, illustrated with the image of an open eye within the arc of a sickle moon.
A friendly orange glow emanates from its cross-paned windows, welcoming in the weary traveler.

Once inside, however, the strangeness of this place becomes more apparent.
Standard hunting trophies and ornate flagons hang next to energy powered rifles and magical artifacts, flickering wall sconces share their light with gently pulsing ceiling orbs and the patrons of this place match the diversity of the decor. The tavern houses all - from confused looking 21st century humans to bored space bounty hunters, reserved middle-aged elves to bubbly pre-pubescent satyrs.
A colourful staff help to keep everyone in line, serving food, drink and the occasional nuggets of wisdom. There is no time limit on how long people are allowed to stay - there is no time at all in fact, a permanent twilight hanging in the sky, people arrive and leave as they feel and the staff never tire. Most staff were in fact once adventuring patrons, who for one reason or another, decided to not leave and remain forever in this realm outside of time.

The Inbetween is a hangout role-play with a small difference. Here you can play as characters from other roleplays/ stories that you might be working on (although also feel free to create a new character just for here c: ) - it's a place where they can come between events within their own stories to relax, vent or just to talk. You can use this place to roleplay with a character that is currently not in use, from a roleplay that has stalled, for a character that you still haven't quite nailed the personality down for and need to experiment with - you can just use it to hang out, or to try and break yourself out of a writing block, whatever you like c:
As stated in the above description, characters are free to enter/ leave as you feel - you can keep a character permanently here, keep bringing them back sporadically or have them just have a one time visit.

I will be roleplaying the owner/ bartender, so will try to be around pretty consistently, and others are welcome to join the staff too c:
Not really got any storyline planned, this is meant to be more of a casual "in-character hangout", but if people wanna start up some kind of storyline, feel free c:

▂ ▃ ▅ ▆ Preamble

You awake in a purple haze - or are you asleep? It feels too real to be a dream, but you have no memory of how you got here, or where here even is.
You stumble blindly through the lavender mist, the soft grass under your feet releasing fresh, forest scents as you walk. You suppose you should feel nervous, afraid or bewildered, being lost in an unfamiliar place, but you feel at ease.
Slowly the mist begins to thin and you and you see silhouettes of trees all around you - and is that the glow of a light that you can see? With no other discernible direction, you head towards it, both mist and trees becoming less dense until you find yourself in a large clearing, the golden twilight sky illuminating a large tavern in the clearing's center.

+ You may control more than one character, however please keep it easy to tell which character/s you are posting as - I find using character specific font colours is a nice way of doing this c:

+ This is a place where genre, period and tech level all mash together, so feel free to bring in whatever race of character you wish

+ Be considerate of other roleplayers - different skill levels are fine, this is casual and I'm more than happy for people to use this as a place to practice their writing skills

+ Out of character chat is fine (and encouraged), but make sure you make it obvious what is in character and what is out of character. I personally quite like using (( double brackets )), but feel free to use whatever you're most comfortable with.

+ I will include a profile skeleton below, but everyone is welcome to jump in and start posting without using one - it's just there for people who prefer using them.

I'll be on & posting as Etha tomorrow, but this took longer than I thought it would and I'm too tired to post rn xD ))

((Oh my goodness, so looks like I just up and disappeared for two years D:
But now I'm back and finally kicking this bad boy off! ))

Etha whistled to herself contentedly whilst polishing a whiskey tumbler - the hazy twilight that filtered through into the bar made the slightly tinted glass sparkle warmly between her lilac fingers.

She couldn't remember exactly how long she had been the bar keep at the inbetween - months, years, decades? But the haziness of her memory didn't bother her particularily. She was happy here.
She loved getting to meet her various patrons and learn about their worlds, each one was unique and had their own quirks that she found fascinating. Of course, it wasn't always a breeze, sometimes customers could become rowdy or partake a little too much in the tavern's specialties - but really, didn't that just add some spice to life? And Etha was a girl who could handle herself.

Her whistled tune came to a natural end as placed the polishing rag back onto the bar and examined her handiwork - sucess! No more stubborn lipstick smears. Pleased with herself, Etha popped the glass back on the shelf and busied herself with other cleaning tasks around the bar.
