As they say, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. However, I find that's often not true with musical and artistic choices. How about ya'll? Do you like the same kind of music as your parents? Share any favorite songs? And just how much does your musical taste overlap?
For me, I grew up mostly listening to my mom's musical choices via car radio which was country. 90's country is still a solid choice for me, full of nostalgia. I loved it growing up even though my tastes in music have changed vastly. For my dad. Uh....welll........his musical choices encompass pretty much everything except pop and music I listen to. However, I do find quite a few classic rock songs on my ipod and a few other random choices that I've gotten from his cd's.
Such as right now, I'm listening to Cold Dead Reckoning by Ian Anderson which I think I would never have heard of if not for my dad playing it.

The same is definitely not true for me. My mum listens to pop-radio and Cliff Richard.
I'm into heavy rock style so we don't match at all!

Did you also not enjoy music from your parents while growing up, like hearing it in the car? Even if I don't really listen to the music from my childhood anymore, I still feel fondness for it.

I like a lot of the music my mom likes. Oldies, older country, musicals. Good stuff. But I also like stuff my mom hates. Like naughty songs and really graphic and/or political stuff, opera, pop.
And there's a lot of her music that I ain't into at all. I don't like Christian music at all. But some gospel music is nice. I have a really diverse love of music.

Light_sucks: Your mom's taste in music sounds a lot like mine!! XD
Actually I would prefer Christian rock/contemporary a lot more than gospel. Otherwise I'd agree with you. Parents have a tendency not to like the more graphic songs that their kids like.

My parents had very different taste in music.
My dad liked country while my mum preferred to listen to Scottish music.

My mom listened to rock (which is my go to, but I tend more toward the alt side than she does) & my dad listened to classic rock & country - I love classic rock and I like the parts of country my dad had me grow up listening to - the new stuff not so much.

when I was really young, I would listen to the radio with my grandmother's sister. Pretty much that started my love for music. My mom doesnt listen to music, so I say no. I listen to what my friends listen to, (but not their music. lol sorry friends)
