Presents Through Life

Like most kids, I loved getting presents for the holidays.
I was an only child and my parents and grandparents often bought toys and stuff for me.
Sometimes my parents would suffer through me picking something out at the toy store.
I say suffer because it would take me at least 2 hours before I picked something.
They'd follow me down each aisle and down each aisle again and again.
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't spoiled and felt entitled to some things.
But the older I get, the more I care less about acquiring objects.
My parents are both gone and all I've wanted was them here with me for my birthday and Thanksgiving and Christmas.
It will be three years without my mom and two without my dad this year.
They aren't dead, just away, but it still sucks.
I can get all the coolest gifts, but they don't compare to my parents.
I've lost many loved ones and the holidays aren't as happy anymore because they're dead.
So in the end, I prefer people over objects.
I'm a cheap person, so I don't spend much on myself except food. Which is kind of a thing people need to live.
Even then, I try to buy cheap.
So I usually don't buy gifts for myself.
I do love giving gifts to others, though.
It makes me happy to buy gifts for others and make them happy.
I've always worried and hoped they'd like their gifts xD
Like legit worry >>
I don't get to buy much for people, so it makes me happy when I can and cheer them up a little.
And when I can give gifts, I love to give.
I'm not an overly emotional person on the outside.
I will usually smile and say thank you, but I might come off as..ungrateful or rude.
I've just never been the literal jump for joy kind of person.
But I guarantee you I'm doing a jig of glee on the inside.
I cherish everything I'm given and will hold onto it unless something else comes up.
I have hoarding tendencies, and I want to keep EVERYTHING people give me.
How do you feel about getting and giving gifts?

I enjoy giving gifts, but it can be hard to choose the right gifts for someone, and Christmas pretty much kills my wallet. I've already started mulling over what I should get everyone this year though.
Knowing a lot of people, I kinda want to give gifts to all of them. I will probably make candy sleighs for people at work, but I'm not sure about everyone else yet. Maybe I can give cocoa to church folks and couple it with candy canes... I'll have to shop around a bit and think about it.
As for getting gifts, I love it! I don't mind if the gift is store-bought or hand-made; it's just a nice gesture that shows that someone thought of me, so I appreciate it. I've saved all the art and drawings I've ever been given --IRL or online, and I especially love gifts that are well thought out or given with what I like in mind.
I tend to put my favorite gifts on display; unsurprisingly, many of these are from my brother, but there are also many others from family and friends. It's a good reminder of how lucky I am to have these folks in my life. :3

I hate getting gifts. I am the kind of person who knows, detailedly, what it is I want. So the people who get me something they think I would want kinda just end up getting me clutter as I see it. I have enough of that already. It is pretty rare that someone gets me one of the exact things I would like and those gifts I love.

Yeah, I'm not overly good with either
Of course, birthdays are now pretty much overlooked after 18, so nothing there
And Christmas has moved to focusing on the next generation. I can count on socks (I was there this year LOL and got some shopping done myself), one or two things for my ever growing Xmas metropolis, and usually something art related
Past that, it's generally nothing super memorable
I've one that's overdue from last year that'll prolly end up part of this year. Oh well
And on my iPad I have a list of who is getting what. Fortunately it's not a huge list so it's not overly hard. Plus mom tends to cover dad's present for me, and usually all of hers in general. Also her grandkid's presents, so my niece and nephew, if it's hard enough to squeeze them in

I love giving gifts. It's a bit of an ego rub when you find something that they really like, and of course it feels great when you've caused someone happiness (even for something material).

Mika: Choosing is hard. I always got what I think they'd like, but panic when they opened it. But they're the type of people that would love anything I gave them. But I want to give them things they can use and that make them happy. My grandpa was hard to buy for because if he needed something, he'd get it for himself. So that left not much to by for him xD
WishingMoon: I usually enjoy getting money from people. They're usually family members I don't see much, so it's usually easier to give me money than to get me gifts because they don't know me as well.
Kit: >XD "Happy Birthda-- Wait, you're 18! -tosses cake- >BU"
I actually enjoy getting clothes now xD;
I don't have a lot of clothes, so it's a good present to give me.
ashabellanar: Right. I just really like seeing people be happy because I like being happy. And there's some people like "You don't need to get me anything 8u" and I'm like ">> WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE!?"

I like giving gifts but I'm not a big fan of buying them. Not because I don't want to spend money but sometimes it just takes ages to find the perfect gift. Sometimes you can't find something that would the other person like. And sometimes you just don't know the other person well enough so you're forced to get a generic one and hope for the best...

It can be quite stressful. Still, if you can find something they really like, it's worth it when you see the happiness.

I love giving present to people and seeing their faces light up when you find that perfect gift.
