Building Up

I see people talking about how society loves giving out prizes for participating and trying your best, but not winning and how it's wrong and stupid to do that.
They say awards should be given to people who win, not lose.
I can see why they say that, but I think it's good to give people a little treat for trying their best.
A lot of people might not know this, but I've had nearly 0% self-esteem most of my life.
I considered myself useless, worthless, stupid, ugly, etc.
I would lie awake and wonder why good people died and I didn't.
I was worthless and useless and I should die.
I let my mental and physical health deteriorate so badly because I didn't love myself.
Who would love and be proud of worthless garbage?
It's up to people to see the positives in themselves and love themselves, but when you have shitty people all around you, it's hard.
So I think supporting everyone is good.
You should always try to build people up instead of tear them down.
I finally have learned to love myself and think I'm a good person.
I still freak out when I make mistakes and think I'm stupid, but it's not like how it was.
Even if I made typos, I'd verbally beat myself down and to this day, no one has ever talked to me worse than I've talked to myself.
When people think they're not good enough, they lose self-esteem and it may even lead to suicide.
So I think it's good to always tell people "You did good." "Thank you for trying." "You did your best."
What do you think?
