What Do They Teach Kids

My sister had no idea that Japan wasn't close to New York.
I asked if they teach her Geography and she said "No".
I also asked if she knew what the original thirteen colonies were and she said "No".
I was told "She's just in fourth grade!" but I was taught that in fourth grade.
We even did a play on each state.
We had Geography in 7th grade as part of our regular classes.
I enjoyed it and usually got A's.
I like learning about other places and languages they speak.
She also has math that I don't remember being taught.
It confused me more than regular math.
I've also seen people say "They have sex ed in schools!"
We never had it. They told us nothing.
They said to never even hold hands.
I wasn't taught about sex or even what a period is.
I learned as I went.
I also met people who said they had home economics and German and French class.
We had nothing like that.
We had Spanish, choir, art and sports.
And the Spanish was really...proper and people don't use that a lot here.
What all did you learn in school?

They teach stuff about 99% of kids will never use again and nothing important and useful like how to file taxes
But it is All Importantâ„¢ that we know that the mitrochronida is the powerhouse of the cell
There was some really basic (read: baking, not actual cooking) home ec classes in middle school, but everything related past that was an elective
Sex Ed? More like drug Ed. Sex? Nah doesn't exist man
Teachers have to teach x thing at y time or they're under review cuz of how old rich white males who went to expensive private schools (and have never seen a public school, much less been on the property of one, much less been in one, muuuuuuuch less see how their "programs" actually don't work) keep restricting everything on public schools
And then tell the same people to send their kids to private schools. Which said people can't afford
But oh wait, being unable to afford something is a foreign concept
We could choose between French and Spanish
Or, with some duck-lining, whatever else the local college offers (ASL)
Music was a choice:
General music. Take this, the other two are unavailable
Band: I took this
Chorus: the teacher really liked "hail jeebuz" songs
Band and chorus could be taken together
Art became an elective after middle school
Sports were part of gym, but they tended to have an alternate option for those who hate sports
They really fucked up math with the common core system. Nobody knows what is going on there
We had geography. Elementary school was basic stuff
It was mashed in with other things in later years, but otherwise wasn't really ever specifically taught
Supposedly, America schools teach kids to get ready for the working world...and yet at least 90% of what is taught...very much is useless after school for nearabout everyone

I dont remember having a specific Geography class until 10th grade >.> And I didnt even take it until 12th and I still dont know as much as I probably should. I mean I had history classes so I know a bit but I was never good at it. I cant remember what I learned in elementary/middle school.
Math, that subject... I dont wanna talk about it. Lol xD I dont get anything. I was horrible at Geometry but I got up to Algebra 2 and I cant do no more. I was in Pre-cal but I couldnt understand anything.
We had the choice of French or Spanish so I was used to that because we had that in middle school. But the first high school I went to had ceramics and Japanese and all these classes I loved to do(I took those two). I loved it there but I moved and got more generic classes xc
We have health class in 9th grade(freshman year) and it was about drugs and they definitely talked about sex or how things worked and periods.
They really dont teach you what you need to know once youre out of high school. I would of just graduated this month but I had stuff going on and failed 2 of my classes I need to make up before I can graduate. I know one of my teachers(he taught civics but he was a cool guy) he went over taxes ans stuff with us once because he knew we would need that.
I dont know where Im going with this anymore so Im gonna end it here xD

When I was a high school freshman, we were all required to take this class called "PACE" which was where we made a four-year plan to graduate. We also did assignments where we wrote down our life goals and that was about it. Freshmen had health which was a class mostly revolved around drugs and teen pregnancy. All my other classes had relevance to it like geography, history, biology, chemistry, earth space, anatomy, and the such...
