When I Grow Up, I Want To Be...

You know how as kids we had those dreams of what we want to do and become when we grow up? Sometimes those dreams changed constantly, I'm sure, but there might have even been some that still remain today. Maybe even became reality. Who did you want to become when you "grow up"? Did any of those dreams remain, become true or change?

The oldest one I can remember wanting to be as a kid was a sunday school teacher. Don't remember how old I was, but couldn't be younger than 6 or 7. Didn't become one, lol, but wouldn't mind being one either.

When I was in Kindergarten, my teacher taught us about the rainforest. About all the species that lived there, and all the medicine and goods we get from the rainforest, and how, if we did not protect it, it would disappear. I spent the entire car ride home begging my mother to help me save the rainforest. A year later, I boarded a plane to Costa Rica. I've been studying forest ecology and conservation ever since.
I majored in Environmental Science in high school, and got a Bachelors of Science in Biology in Uni. Now I am traveling the world. I am actually in Costa Rica right now, staying at the house my mother both down here a couple of years ago. A few weeks ago was the 15th year anniversary of our first time to Costa Rica.
I've made a lot of missteps along the way, and I've lost my path quite a few times, but all roads seem to lead me back to the forest.
For me, home isn't a house, a city, or even a country. It's the crunch of leaves underfoot, the smell of wet soil after a heavy rain, the wind whistling through the leaves, the scurrying of critters. Whenever I enter a forest, it's like the sun is shinning from deep within my chest.
When I grow up, I want to protect the forests.

Fire- that's wonderful
i wanted to write stories and make music. i had no talent with music though, so after a lot of tears i've given up on that dream. i content myself with listening to and appreciating music.
i've been writing since as long as i've been reading. when i was in the ninth grade my mother told me to stop writing altogether and concentrate on studying. so because i couldn't write at home, i wrote between classes at school, and i managed to finish a novel that way. it was a sucky novel, but it showed me that i'd find a way to write no matter what.
so now i'm studying english lit with liberal arts in college, and i'm part of the creative writing club that meets sometimes. i still want to be a writer. it may not be full time but i do want it to be a part of my life. i have to write a lot for my assignments in college, it feels like words are being wrung out of me, but i still haven't stopped writing my own stories. hopefully someday something will become of them.

I wanted to be a homemaker. Sounds like a lame childhood dream, but it's what I wanted. I never thought I would get to be one, but I am now.

There was a hilarious thing where because of the timing on which threads were bumped when, I read the thread titles down, and it said:
When I Grow Up, I Want To Be...
Sentimental

I wanted to be an archaeologist when I was a kid. Or the president of the USA. Or a karate instructor. lol.
None of those have come true. But as a kid I did want to eventually get married and live with my partner and have pets. I did do that part. lol.
I am doing a lot better financially than my mom ever did so that's a bonus too. I wanted to have enough money to be comfortable and I think that I'm finally getting to that point.
