If you actually love what you are doing then I suppose the money doesn't matter if you are living a good life with the wages you make. I do believe after that time and dedication though you deserve more. Do they offer you a retirement plan at least? If you have been there that long I would expect you might even stay until you retire, so I hope they do that.
Minimum wage here in BC, Canada is $11.75 per hour. If my math is right, that is about $8.80 US. Every place I have worked gave a yearly raise, not all were great, some were better than others, but at my last job I was making about $19 Canadian an hour, or $14.25-ish US and that is the most I have made per hour at a job.
That's part of the reason I want to have my own business. I will make the most money that way and be able to do what I love. I'm in the process of setting up a daycare in my home so hopefully within a year or so I can do that.
