quite a list
I'm not that acquainted with faery folklore but they seem to be the new vampires of romantic fantasy

I don't know why the male characters should do that. Personally I don't know anybody who'd do that in real life.

Is it picked up from some high-cultural-impact movie or show character?

I watched the Under The Greenwood Tree movie. I HATED it. I have never read the book or seen any other movie version of it. So I don't know if this movie version just didn't do it justice. But bleh! I have no interest in trying any other versions now!

Haven't heard of it :o
I am reading a book on language change and meaning change. It's kind of nice because it is finally a German book and also quite easy to understand (regarding the language, the content is still pretty scientific), but I disagree with a few things the author establishes... :D Well well..

I'm still sidetracked. Not going to protest it much, either; books are kind of my refuge so letting myself be sidetracked is key to retaining that feeling.

there's nothing bad in it, imo. not like you owe your attention to book stacks
I finished that book about fire mages in an ice university. it has a cool world and global plot line but the character cast and the romantic plotline are rather weak

I quite like supernatural themes in books, but I like it when the author manages to find some kind of new and interesting angle. Like I enjoyed the Shadowhunters series because of this angle of the angels protecting humans and a whole secret society of people, etc. Or I like ones I've read where there has been a new idea about vampire lore, or just mixing two cultural ideas to create a medium way that seems new. Haven't read many fae books yet. But
I get disappointed by so many books where it's just same old, same old.
As for violent male characters, I do dislike it too. Or I've read some 'bad boy' romances where the main character is involved in crime or drugs or something like that. Just doesn't seem like it should appeal to anyone as far as I'm concerned, sure the man might turn out to be nice in the end but she shouldn't have let him get that far.
