Yes! Nerds unite!!
Although now that I think of it, I should look up the actual definition of "nerd". I'm pretty sure the usage has changed over my lifespan.

Computering changed the way I understand a nerd, that's true.
But I kinda match both so I'm ok with it xD
In my language we tend to use the word "freak", and it's changed so much that peoeple now use it with a positive connotation.

Hmm, I'm more used to "freak" being associated with nonstandard sexual preferences. But then, "standard" and "nonstandard" change over time too.
Language is so tricky! Cultural context can change it even if it's the same word in the same time period....

Yeah, for some reason when the words translated into my language the word "freak" was confused with "nerd", so we have a English-based word ("friki") which is what you would translate nerd for.
Lost in translation kind of thing.
People would say to be proud of being "frikis" (nerds).
Which is good, you gotta be proud of being different.

Yes! My younger sister used to say being "normal" means being "mundane" and that's just another word for "boring". So to be proud of being weird and unique and different.

One thing that I have pending to do with my students is showing them what normal actually means.
Statistically.
Some graphs, data from the OMS about stuff they can understand.
I have gathered it all and made a presentation (you are nerdy, maybe you know what Beamer/LaTeX are!) and now I just gotta find the time.

Sadly I had to look those up; my tech-savvy is really poor compared to other random abstruse subjects. Pretty much all my college and university years were spent hiding in the library with textbooks and then challenging courses via papers and tests, instead of looking at actual presentations...
Do you teach statistics?

I teach Maths.
Which includes a part of statistics too.
But this presentation is not for my subject.
Here high school teachers may also be tutors of one of their groups, and I'm the tutor of a group of 15-16 years olds.
I have a weekly session in which we can talk of stuff or do different kind of activities which are not part of the curricula of any subject.
Yesterday we went to the library to pick up books for next trimester, and then helped decorate the high school.
Next time we'll do something else.
This presentation is ready to be used whenever I don't have any other urgent task.
