I'd love to attend a masquerade one day, that's my fantasy scene for "maybe someday". But I have never heard about one being held anywhere close to me (otherwise I'd have definitely gone there already :D)...

I bet you could probably get a small study group together to learn and practice fan language with; that sort of thing is a lot easier to arrange than a whole ball.

I admit, I really love the "masquerade ball" trope in romance novels. It's hokey and corny and cliche and trite but I love it anyhow. There's just something about it.
(Especially the way Georgette Heyer does them)

It'll probably be a while until I get my hands on them, though, since my pile of "books to read" is too big at the moment to justify buying more and now they've come probably too late to have a chance this christmas. But I'll get to them eventually :)

I found an English copy of Venetia (another Georgette Heyer novel) in a street fair while visiting family in Egypt, so you might find random used copies of her books just about anywhere if you keep an eye out. They've managed to make it a surprising number of places.

Wow, that is a fun coincidence! I'll definitely keep my eyes open for them :)

I think it's also a great idea to take notes and put them down in a semi-thoughtout way, so if you ever do get to organizing them, you'll have them at hand and won't have to remember all the ideas you already came up with. :)

its a yearly event that I saw advertised on FB a couple of times, I know people that have gone and loved it. You learn dances from 17-1800 period, and there's music and dinner provided in the price. Only thing you need to provide yourself is your costume/dress
