May I suggest something different?
Pick out some images where you like the eyes and try to re-draw what you see.
I use this method whenever I have problems with something, may it be an eye, a hand, a shoe, etc.
It might not be the most creative approach, but the idea behind it is not to copy something already existing, but to get a hang on how it is done.

I didn't suggest to use a ref, which you got a point there Firn. Using photo's of people can be helpful. It helped me with hands.
